quote:
Thomas gave a strong indication that even when Jared Jeffries returns, Richardson will stay in the starting lineup at shooting guard with either Steve Francis or Stephon Marbury (13 points, 5 assists) heading to the bench. Thomas' edict of this being Curry's team has, Thomas admitted, created waves among the perimeter players, notably Marbury.
So...who do you send to the bench when Jared returns?
Stephon Marbury (popular mafia choice)
Steven Francis (pre season trade bait)
David Lee (start Jared at the 4)
Jared Jeffries (bring him off the bench)

it's a sticky situation...

I'm leaning toward bringing jared off the bench or moving lee back to the second unit.

But if a guard has to sit, it's gotta be francis.

I feel like marbury is getting out of his funk and francis is beginning to freelance ala nate.

tough decisions...but that's what zeke gets paid for.

Francis (11.7 ppg) continues to struggle with his shots and has turned the ball over 25 times, but more nights like he had Friday is why he needs to be in the New York lineup.

It's a two man race to see who meshes well with the team over the next week. But suffice to say, it's francis by a hair.

Very interesting...the fact that chemistry was a main factor in anticipating Jared's return, that is another subtle jab at marbury...hopefully they can put something together that helps us bring in Jared slowly.

Having Jared in the starting lineup will pose the same type of problems that having Balkman starting does. With no perimeter shooter to space the floor teams can sag on us or play zone, making things harder on Curry and our guards. For that reason, along with the fact that Q has earned himself a place in the starting lineup, JJ comes off the bench.

This will be interesting. A lineup of Jeffries and Lee together (in the atrting lineup if Zeke leans towards Frye comming off the bench) will be very scrappy, but limited on the offensive end. With Marbury struggling to find his game, we will rely heavily on Q and Curry for offense. Hopefully Curry can continue to play the way he's been playing lately.

The coaching is finally paying off. I've calling for Curry to spin over his right shoulder and finish with his left instead of bulldozing over opponents with his left shoulder. He also incorporated a few spin moves and even a couple of drop steps. Hope he continues to progress.

I'd bring Jeffries off the bench at first and see how he fits in with the other guys on the roster. We haven't really seen that much of Jeffries with the Knicks so we don't know who he fits with.

I'd like Lee and q to start every game. Why not try q at sg? Its not like we get great defense at sg anyway. We need q's outside shooting and leadership
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

I agree. I'd also try starting Crawford at the 1. the make a nice large backcourt, while you still have Nate bringing fire off the bench.

Q
Jeffries
Lee
Curry or Frye

I think the best way to reign in Crawford's gunning is to have him run the point and be the "head". He's shown in the past he's capable of it so why not give it a try. Problem is (IMO) there is no way in heaven or hell Jamal is going to start over Steph AND Francis. And plus you have to figure in Nate's playing time.

This is going to be one tricky puzzle for Zeke to solve when Jeffries gets back.

I dont know if Jcraw is enough of a ball distributor to start him over Francis at this point. Jcraw is weird. He is a bad ball distributor for 1/2 of the game then becomes a very good passer in the 3rd and 4th qtrs.

That all depends on how well Craw can follow instructions. When asked to distribute the ball, he did a solid job of it and made some great plays, but obviously if he's going to be jacking up 20 footers with 18 left in the shot clock, bench his ass.
The good thing is Craw has been very coachable the past few seasons. I wonder what Zeke is actually telling him to do out there.

Great, now he won't post on this thread anymore.

IT has been able to avoid some of the tougher PT issues b/c players have been hurt. This is going to be a tough decision. Q has to start. That cannot be questioned. We are a better team with him on the court and we need his offense in the starting lineup. Curry is going to start obviously. I think IT is already tired of the Francis/Marbury backcourt, and Jeffries is his prized FA pickup this summer, so it seems to me that Francis will sit. Lineup will be Marbury, Q, Jeffries, Lee or Frye, and Curry, with Francis being the first guard off the bench. I actually want Jeffries to start b/c he is probably going to be our best defender. With him at SF and Q at SG, we will have our best defenders on opposing teams best perimeter players. Curry, Q, and Marbury (assuming he can pull some part of his former game together) will be able to score and Q and Jeffries, and Lee can provide the defense. This seems like the best starting lineup to me.

Marbury should be the one coming off the bench, but all he'd do is sulk & complain about it to the press, so Francis will probably be the guy... IT seems to feel comfortable asking him to make sacrifices for the good of the team, & Francis seems to have been open to doing it since he got here.

Here is the problem with that. People worry about Isiah "losing" Marbury but they dont realize that when he treats Marbury different than other players he loses like 5-10 other Knicks

i trust marbury's decision making as a starter and Francis' energy off the bench.

Same goes with crawford and lee, they are outperforming their starting counterparts, but for some reason, perform better in their current roles.
