Sorry for yet another Marbury thread, I know you all are gonna blast me but I hope to get some dialog other than Marbs bashing or potshots at me. When Isiah brought Marbs here wasn't it because he could fill the seats, bring some excitement and was a scoring point guard? He could put up 20 or more and still get teammates involved. Why change that? If you wanted a pass first point guard, why bring him here? Why bring Francis? Most teams have a dominant scorer. Curry is not your answer because I don't believe that he wants to be an elite player. Marbs get rediculed and blasted on this and I guess other boards but imagine if you're hired away to another company/job because you're good at what you do but once you get there or soon after they tell you that we need you to change they way you think and work....it isn't easy!! Some people adjust, most don't or can't. I keep reading how Marbs doesn't make his teammates better, well most of the point guards in this league are guilty of that. He will either get it, get traded, or bought out but I feel sorry that they brought him home, humiliated him and made him the main scapegoat of this leaking vessel. They've taken one of the top scoring point guards in this league and basically broken him.....and that's the fault of LB, the fans and now surprisingly Isiah. I've put a lot of thought into this and have plenty more to say, I am also hoping for intelligent and insightful discussion. Thanks for reading.

i think Marbury was able to play the way both LB & Isiah are trying to tell him to play during that 6 game winning streak they had last year, when the team was moving the ball around, Marbury was scoring when he needed to & dishing off when he needed to, & keeping everyone within the flow of the game... why he can't figure out that that's how he needs to play & how the coaches, teammates & fans are expecting him to play is beyond me when he's already done it in the past... at this point i think his confidence is completely shot, but blaming it on LB, the fans or Isiah is completely ridiculous... how about Marbury stepping up & taking accountability for his own failures as a player for once in his life? that would be a refreshing change.

Travla,

I think the key has been while marbury has been successful as a scoring guard, his teams don't win enough. If surrounding talent was the problem, then its acceptable to allow your "star" to go off. But since he dominates the ball there is little room for others to get involved.

The key point is not to have broken him, but to EVOLVE him into a more complete player. To have that abilty to take over a game is important but to keep some in reserve and knowing when to get others involved is very important.

He was given many chances and those chances have broken him, not the other way around. He is not a clutch player and its possible that at his age he has lost half a step. Many players compensate by refining fundamentals and adding components to their game. It appears that he has not done that so he is not succeeding in playing off the ball or passing off early.

When you sign a max contract, proclaim youself the best and don't live up to either, then its not pretty.

The other thing is you should be nice to people when you rise cuz you never know who your going to see on your way down! His surly attitude is catching up to him.

His ego is massive and this must be killing him. Its possible he still remains immature and spoiled and at 30 has yet to feel the humility that many people experience in their 20's. Lets face it, earning 100 mil and the world (his world) has been kissing his ass for years now. While I understand Isiah has been trying to mentor him in this respects, its possible he has misunderstood the message.

This could be Isiahs biggest failure actually. Trying to be a big brother to Marbury and not getting a real response. Selling cheap sneakers to help struggling families might make you a better person, but it don't do a thing on the court.

And that is where the "court" of public opinion matters most. He is paid 20 mil to succeed as the leader of this basketball team and has failed miserably in that regard.

Honestly my only real problems with Marbury before larry brown came to town was his comments in the media, his body language when loosing, the towel thing... pointing fingers.. It wasent his GAME i had a problem with. It was his personality. I never thought he really needed to change his game other than chillin on jackin up that 25 foot heat-check 3 pointer every now and then. Besides that, i liked his game. It was his personality that i thought was detrimental to the team - and still is

i just think he's thinking (if that's possible) too much and is basically thinking his way off of the knicks.

at this point, I'm done with people that don't perform...he's putting up numbers that dwarf nate and crawford and currently francis and it's time for him to put up or shut up.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

He's never listened in the past. Now his career is at a crossroads. He used LB as his last excuse and has run out. This year it's a difficult adjustment which is fine. But the collapse is because of one thing. He is finally being forced to listen but after 10 years of not listening he is having a tough time adjusting. Most 10 year vets don't have such a hard time, but those that never have listened before do. It's finally catching up to him.
I just hope that people will like me

I appreciate the responses. I have never been a Marbs fan per se, I have been a Knicks fan for a long time and I have never liked every player on a given team but I always want the players to play as best they can. Like any good fan, as long as he's on this team, I want him and the team to play well. Maybe he's lost a step or two, maybe he's just lost but I hope he gets it before too long.

Travla, i used to be optimistic about Marbs... i was never really a big fan, but i thought he had skills that could translate well in NY before he got here... everything negative my Net fan friends used to tell me about him i would dismiss, saying things would be different for him in NY & that he would change... boy, was i wrong... now i can't wait for the day he's no longer our problem.

How about taking that one step further and being done with guys that have NEVER performed, even if YOU NEED A CENTER.

This is why you avoid guys that have the same problems everywhere they go... there's a pretty good chance they will have those same problems with you.

Ditto amigo. On top of that he showed some life. For a short run he was surrounded by guys that rebound and had a good jump shot in Doleac/KVH/KT. Sure enough, Knicks win games. Then Isiah does what he does best and made sure we had every high priced creampuff available.
