As of right now if you look at the threads started this is the breakdown of the general tone of the person that started the thread. Andrew claims that after a win there is more activity on the site, but I wonder if activity is the same as threads started and numbers of posts from particular members. The latter questions are something to analyze at another time but here is a basic breakdown of all posts displayed on the first page of the forum I tallied at few moments ago (not including game threads and annoucements):

Generaly Critical/Negative: 13
Generally Positive: 9
Neutral: 3

Maybe Andrew was speaking in a historical context.

we get more users and more hits after a win than after a loss.

Thanks for the response martin. I guess I wonder if the actual thread post numbers are any different, either way, as well. In other words, people could be posting more or reading more after a win, but I wonder if the number new threads started falls along the same lines.

I think it's time to come up with a new hypothesis since this one got shot to sh it.

I think the nature of most ANY board, sports or otherwise, is that when there is controversy or disagreement, there is more to talk about.

So more posts after a loss recently then?

What is controversial in the loss... or win? It is pretty stratforward to losa and to win

Sorry some of you don't care for questions that don't fit your point of view, but martin has it on the button. Contraversy causes excitement.

Anyway, I never suggested that I was pleased with losing, but trying to see if the observation I made was accurate.

As for the hypothesis being wrong, I don't think the question I am asking has been answered or can be that quickly. Whatever number of hits or "click through" numbers (to use online advertising lingo) registers here does not answer my question. I'm not trying to determine whether more people read or post after a loss or win, but the number of threads started by posters that have a generally negative tone, versus positive tone after a loss or win. That quesion cannot be simply determined by looking at any data a server gives about users, but needs to be analyzed beyond that.

When you are winning there is a lot less controversy than when you are losing.

There was a 10 minute period 3 losses ago where there was an abnormal amount of posts.

You win.

This could be a new feature on the site - number of posts after a loss or win. There could be a chart showing concordance of posts with wins or losses. Then we could continue this scientific study more scientifically.

That is, if anyone really gives a ****.

Just wondering but what would be the point to all this?

maybe it's because most fans don't feel like making posts after their team loses an important game. Most fans don't enjoy reveling in the negativity of a loss. Most fans enjoy high-fiving each other after a win and posting caongratulatory declarations. They do not enjoy emphasizing the suckitude of their team that just lost.

When the Knicks lose, I don't rush to this board to start a topic about trading Crawford or Frye for trash and elephant puke. You take the loss like a man and move on.

friday night and win = passing out and sleeping late.

losses means something is broken, discussion necessary.

to me, it's more certain posters are rude to their fellow fans (quality) and less volume (quantity) of posts.
