LOSER's Mentality:
Knicks coach Isiah Thomas was plainly honest when asked if he was expecting Newark's O'Neal to play tonight.
"I hope not," he said. "I really do, I hope he doesn't play."
WINNER's Mentality:
Worse, the Heat may be in a foul and uncompromising mood come tipoff after hearing their legendary coach, Pat Riley, publicly destroy their supposedly weak defensive efforts.
"Right now we are one of the worst teams I have ever coached," he told reporters in Miami yesterday. "Maybe it's the system, maybe it's the coach. I'll know in the next month."
Unfortunately for the Knicks, they could find out as soon as tonight.
Said power forward Udonis Haslem: "I don't know who the worst was before us, but that is probably pretty bad. I would hope everybody on our team would take that to heart and get to work."
Losing vs. Winning mentality:
The amazing thing is that while Thomas talks about the progress his team has made in going 3-6 while allowing 103 points per game, Riley is cursing the defending champions for giving up 99.9 points per game.
