ISIAH BACKS HIS OLD COACH

November 15, 2006 -- Isiah Thomas backed his old coach in the aftermath of the controversy that arose when Texas Tech coach Bob Knight forcibly flipped the chin of one his players during a game Monday night.

"All my coaches [including Knight] demanded never, ever, could you put your head down," said Thomas, who won the 1980-81 NCAA at Indiana under Knight.

"When someone's talking, you look them eye-to-eye. Those value-based coaches, old-fashioned coaches, they coach more than the game: They coach men.

"I love him. I wouldn't have been the player, coach or person that I am had I not played at Indiana for Bob Knight," Thomas said. "Whatever happened to us at Indiana, we're better men for it.

"If I had it to do all over again, I'd never, ever want to play for any other coach other than him. There'd be no way in hell I'd be president of the Knicks had I not played at Indiana."

I almost wish Bobby Knight were coaching the Knicks. Throwing chairs and bitchslapping and choking players. We almost need a certified headcase to coach this squad.

yeah, it would be a wonderful sight to see 1 of his own players kicking the crap outta him at centercourt after he had screamed in his face & pushed his chin up to make eye contact.

Even though it was a love tap, it was still wrong and public humiliation for that matter.

However, this does not make me respect Bobby Knight any less. He's one of the great coaches and teachers of the game, ever.
