Lets say for arguments sake we do end up with the #1 pick. Hypothetically, if the NBA allows the foreign kids in to the draft we would be faced with choosing between James (who plays a position we dont really need) or between some promising big men who are rumored to have amazing talent. What would you do? A big man would anchor this team almost immediately - especially if McDyess pans out. We would have a good center, a good PF, spree, houston....I mean that is a lineup that can play. However, then you face the risk of MJs "second coming" - remember how NY had Ewing and MJ kept slipping past them? Would James eventually do the same thing?

Rule says you always take the best talent, but it seems like these bug guys have enough talent to be considered at the top of the draft so the question of who do you take gets harder.

Ooops typo in the header Europeans - I do know how to spell that one haha.

I know I shouldnt say this not having seen James play for more than
half a heartbeat but I would take him with the first pick.I havent
heard of a high school player getting this much attention since Kobe.
Since I only remember milos and ginobli (spurs) from the world
championships who werent in the NBA at the time,I cant comment too
much on the european big men either. It might not be the right
decision but Id rather get a possible superstar which many people
seem to think James will become.Someone who was a Knick from day
one, someone who will electrify the crowd and who we can build a team
around.I want to see fans around the world wearing a Knicks jersey
again like they did when Patrick was in his prime.

You take Lebron...best talent available. And for the Knicks it means sellouts for the entire season before it even starts. A Euro guy won't do that for you.

I think I would take James too, but you have to give serious consideration to a big man considering this team basically doesnt have one. I would rather have a future superstar but these big guys could become great players as well. However, we missed out on Ming and he seems to have a bright future in the NBA. It would be a shame to miss out on James too.

You can't really say that about 'Zo since his best years were supposed to be now and he went down with his kidney problems. Granted, he wouldn't be as dominant as Shaq but that man could play, no doubt about it.

Its a simple decision you take LeBron why you ask because he will make the franchise Billions in revenue by the time he reaches his 10th year in the NBA thats why. You guys forget its about revenues this is a business, running a basketball team is business and James will bring business to the Knicks from Jersey sales to $5 hot dogs at the garden to $1500-$2000 for front row seats. What Chicago had with Jordan the Knicks will experience first hand with James. Thats why if the KNicks get the number one you take LeBron James. For him you can put any big man aside unless it is someone like SHaq coming into the league. But there are no Shaq just Shaq wanna bes in the Draft. With a line up of:
James g
Houston sg
Dice pf
Spree sf
you can put any stiff at center and the Knicks will win just as the Bulls use to win with Cartwright and Longley.

Draft rule #1: Draft by talent, not position. I'd pick LeBron James, even though some of those european guys have an intriguing amouunt of potential.

Definitely talent over need.

Although I have never seen a clip of him, from all the hype, you can't pass up on someone like him. Read the articles.

BTW i thought he was a SG not a PG.

Yes, talent over need is the way to go. And, yes, James is a shooting guard. PG is a special talent that few possess. It's the most specialized, complex role on the team. Obviously, a guy with this much hype, you will see if he can run an offense, because if you can find another Magic Johnson, that would be great. But more than likely with Lebron, you want him receiving the ball, rather than dishing it out.

AI was a PG in college, but he's such a creative shotmaker, they use him mostly as SG. Once they did that, Philly became a winning team. At the same time, if Lebron can run the ball up the floor and dish some of the time, that makes him all the more dangerous. I hope he doesn't get too caught up in the hype tomorrow night (it is tomorrow night, isn't it? What time?)

Putting James in that lineup would be pretty sick, but it is such a long shot I dont even know if its worth dreaming about. I think the NBA would be making a big mistake if they allowed hm to go to Cleveland or Memphis though. Those aren't places for superstars (maybe I am a little biased but whatever) if he is as good as they say, he should be on the biggest stage available...
