We all know the negative things right? We know he's a terrible leader. We know he's a worse defender. We know he has an elite PG's body & a puny PG's mind. This things have been the case since Minnesota.

But....he's not even a dangerous offensive player anymore. He hasn't gotten to the rack (when he scores, its restricted to J's). He doesn't even seem to show that scorer's mentality anymore. I'm not even talking about a Kobe or Melo superstar mentality, I'm talking about a Chucky Atkins or Carlos Arroyo mentality. Its like Marbury has become this bland, passionless guy who used to have talent.

I know we won last night & I don't want to pull the focus away from that, but it occurred to me at the end of the 1st half when he elected to pass the ball to a covered Channing Frye 25 feel from the rim, instead of blowing by his man like everybody does to him. Its that he can't get to the rim & finish anymore. That was his game. But its past tense.

I cannot tell if its apathy or lost confidence or both. But when you have a guy with no smarts, no defense....and then most of his once elite offensive skills erode, you're left with a very bad player.

he's the guy who's "shaken" right now that Malik was talkin about... Marbury's been getting flack from the media & the fans, all of it well earned, & he can't deal with it... so he's closing himself up into a shell & deferring to others... this is honestly the exact opposite response i was expecting out of him... i expected him to come out on a mission to show his detractors that he was still "Starbury", but that hasn't happened.

I remember a sick alley oop he was on the receiving end of when he was with the Nets. That was a long time ago.

What I'm saying is that he has declined DRAMATICALLY in the area of athletic ability. He can't finish anymore.

I can understand this…
What he is seeing around him at PG spot:
Steve - can do same things but also can rebound and more versatile scorer. He is not relying only on atheism and can be a leader
Nate – incredible athlete, already has a better shot that Marbs, fearless, and crowd loving him regardless
Craf - versatile player, can still the show; take over the game, clutch.
Collins - good defender, tall for his position, mentally prepared
I will be depressed
All alone is not working any more - we don’t need you baby...

One thing you guys haven't considered is that Steph since training camp has been purposefully defering to Francis and J-Clutch. He's not TRYING to take over or dominate. He's trying to left the rest of the team develop their game and when they do that will be to everyones benefit. He could easily just call his own number over and over, but that's not the right thing to do long term. Now it's taken some of his effectiveness away, being so passive, but in the end i think it will be a good thing for the team.

In the old days he'd put up at least 16 shots a game no matter what. He's not doing that. As for those comments about his D, let's be fair. The guy gets beat, but what guard doesn't? When he's focused he plays good D. Even in the last game he had a some good stops but as usual no one seems to notice that. He's also VERY effective against SG's. Even last year statiscally SG's only had a PER of about 10 against him, which is excellent. PLUS we don't really have a lot of support behind him. Guards are in a tough spot on the perimeter with so much space to cover and picks to worry about. So we need to be fair when it comes to him on D. There are so many guards who play poor D that if you had them on this team you'd be saying the same thing about them too. It's just that we see Steph every game and pay more attention to him. When he was avg'ing 20 who where all these great guards that were stopping him?

28 typically is considered prime for athletes.

the problem with marbury is he has played at the nba level for so long, that he is older than his true age.

with steph's new "role" on this team, he's about $12 mil overpaid. his job right now is basically a facilitator and occasionally asked to score. every guard he plays has a career night so he doesn't bring anything there.

Nixluva - its not the qty, its the manner in which he plays. For example, the brainless contested 3 ball in the 4th quarter vs. the Spurs in the 4th quarter. He seems incapable of getting by his man & finishing at the hoop.

Dysunyc - And, at that, he's a pretty lousy facilitator.

They don't keep plus/minus stats in hoops like hockey, but I'd bet that the Knicks are a minus 10 per game this year when he's in the game & roughly a plus 5 per game when he's not in the game.

the puzzling thing is that Marbury said he was going to be Starbury this year & run free in Isiah's new run & gun system, but that hasn't happened... Marbury's playing w/no passion, no fire, no aggression whatsoever... there's a difference between deferring to teammates & looking like you don't want to be out on the floor at all... there are times during the game when Marbury needs to step up & take over, but other than that 1 short stretch in the SA game, he hasn't done it... that's what's so puzzling to me... i thought he had ALOT to prove this year, & he still has alot left in the tank, but he's not playing like it at all... look at a guy like Darrell Armstrong... homeboy is 38 years old & still runs around w/the energy of a rookie... Marbury's body's taken a whole lot of abuse over the years, but he still has the physical ability to break his man down off the dribble, yet i haven't seen him do that hardly at all this year.

Marbury is in a no win situation. If he looks to score and make scoring passes then he is a ball hog who cant play witjout the ball. If he defers to his teamates and takes only six shots while runing the offense effectively (6 assists no TOS, which is much better than 10 assists 4 tos dont get it twisted) then hes old, overpaid, and has no game anymore.

I think isiah has convinced him to play in a more traditional pg model, and except for the indiana game i thought hes played well. So cut the guy a break.

At the least dont say one day that hes a ball hog and then say the next day that he doesnt score enough. Get your mind right on what kind of pg you want first.
