Lets say - Isiah is canned - So is his raptor butt buddy...

Herb obviously takes over for a little while at least....

but Who comes in as a GM?

And realistically - what the hell does he do?

I cant really think of much anyone with any more sense than Isiah could do to fix what is here besides wait it out untill contracts expire and use our draft picks wisely (the ones we have).

Mills goes first.

But I wouldn't fire Isiah during the season.

He should do what any good executive would have done after Layden, except that Isiah has made the situation 10x harder.

Tear it down and start from scratch.

I would hope Stern would step in and meet with Dolan. this is getting ridiculous.

That is a good idea. As an owner Dolan obviously is willing to invest the money to win. He just has no knowledge of sports and needs to put together an executive team to handle things. I am not sure how much Stern can do but I believe he got involved with the Hawks franchise in the past.

When Dolan hired Isiah, he said that he expected to make the playoffs that year, which the Knicks did.

The inescapble conclusion has to be that Isiah was told not to rebuild. Hence, the trade for Marbury.

Isiah's going to get the full year because there's no one to bring in to lift fans spirits in the way Isiah did after Layden. Everyone is jaded and we're not going to be seduced by another smiling charmer or a quick fix trade for a flawed dude.

Dolan will give this every chance to work because he has no backup plan. isiah probably picked Grunwald because he poses no imminent threat to his security, and whatever happens next will probably be a slow burn plan, which doesn't necessitate a quick change.

Getting Jerry Colangelo this summer has to be on his radar though.

Colangelo is 67. You might want him to replace Mills, but you need a younger man as GM.

Let's say that Isiah was told not to rebuild.

You honestly think that he doesn't deserve to be fired for the job he's done under those conditions?

Not rebuilding doesn't mean that he has to trade away 2 first round picks and take back close wo $200M in contracts.

Not rebuilding doesn't mean that he has to give away 2 unprotected picks in the Curry deal.

Not rebuilding doesn't mean that he has to collect bad contract after bad contract.

Even under the condition that he was forced to take this path, Isiah has done a brutally horrible job.

Fire him (although I think it would be counterproducive to do it in season), BUT make sure the new GM will be better, and don't tie his hands with irrational orders from Dolan, otherwise it won't matter.

And as I have said, Mills must go too. For him to get to pick another GM wouuld be a travesty.

That might be a good idea, but why do you need a younger GM? Mills has greater responsibility than Isiah. If you don't think Colangelo has the energy for the job give him an assistant.

Isn't that about the age Auerbach was when as GM he was putting together the Larry Bird championship teams in Boston?

Red was 89. He made those moves from 1978-80, so that would mean that he was about 61-63, which is close.

I guess titles don't matter, but Colangelo is a rich man. He might want equity in the Knicks, as well as complete decision making authority.

I doubt Dolan would do it, but it's worth a shot.

Colangelo is about the only guy left that has a CHANCE of righting this ship. He MUST be hired.

Jerry West would be nice too, I think he is actually retiring though. Who knows, maybe Dolan can flash enough $$$$ at him.

I think Dolan should get rid of Zeke like he said he would and let the contracts ride themselves out and do what the Rangers did. Start all over again, with fresh blood and keep the ones who truely have been playing Knick ball, like Curry, Lee and Q. I feel bad for Zeke, but so far things just aren't working, but I still have some' hope. We'll see.
I'll never trust this' team again.

LOL uhhhhh that franchise never sniffed the playoffs until he got there. Not to mention he hired a coach(Hubie) that put their team on the map and when he lost that coach he replaced him with another quality coach(Fratello). He traded Shane Battier for Rudy Gay Nuff Said among many other myriads of good moves. The Lakers haven't been the same since he left although it looks like they may break throug this yr.

Unless I am mistaken, West made the trade bringing Kobe to LA-any success they have will hinge on the West legacy.
SO if Isiah is Fired along with Grunweld... Who comes in and what does he do????
