This "zero-tolerance" rule has gone way overboard and has ruined a few games, far too early.

If anyone saw Melo get ejected last night, they'd know what I'm talking about. I understand the leagues POV on not letting the refs get shown-up, but they need to understand one thing... The game is not about THEM and tossing players that people pay good money to see, is f'n crazy.

They expect guys to show zero emotion after a poor foul on a big play? Are you kidding me, it happens in every sport and they need to show better judgement with giving guys the hook.

On another note, Mark Cubans shirt which read "HE FINE ME" with a "$" underneath was pure comedy.

I agree - I think the zero tolerance is rediculous, so it the new ball, and the ban on tights etc.

OT - the NFL is retarded for banning endzone celebrations as well. Why all the restrictions?

these refs are beginning to become just as primadonna-like as some of the players... it's ridiculous... i don't watch an NBA game to have to hear the names of the officials throughout the game because they're T-ing up people left & right... i wanna watch the stars play the game... the refs need to shut the hell up, stay out of the way & call the game, period... the same thing is happening in baseball w/the overly sensitive Umpires too... it's ruining the viewing experience!

the NFL is the only league that has it right.

Just another way for the white man to keep the black man down.

on a serious note:
I love Stern how he applies this zero tolerance but still allows Ref to give special treatment to star players.

I LIKE the zero tolerance policy. The players should play and the refs should do their job.

IMHO, this will mostly curb the all-stars from yelling at the refs and intimidating to get a call. Just like hand-checking a couple of years back, in the beginning of the seaon you will see a lot of calls until the players fully comprehend what the rules is.

you guys hear about this? i'm no big chad johnson (excuse me, that's ocho cinco) fan, but i was really surprised he got fined for it.

as for the nba, i think a lot of the reactions to calls are really excessive. i was curious from watching games this week. is it zero tolerance for complaining about foul calls, or zero tolerance for reacting to any call? some pretty innocuous reactions to PFs got T-ed up, but some real backtalk after other kinds of calls didn't (i.e. the marbury turnover vs. the grizz that was on the nba.com highlights).

It's Nazi-like. The refs are often incompetent, yet no one can complain about it. It's another example of Stern playing out his psychological conflicts writ large.

It seems to extreme, but on the other hand I am sick and tired of the players arguing all the time. It is tough to set a soft limit, so zero tolerance is good in my book. Unfortunately there still seems to be a star system in place where they are getting much more tolerance.

Let's see if 'Bron, Shaq, Duncan, or Kobe get ejected when they bitch. I have already read an article that say that Garnett got away with a lot after Maurice Taylor was ejected.

Thats a pretty unfair generalization. Yes...some refs are bad, some are good. You can't complain through the press, however there is a internal process. Bad refs get fired....you just don't hear about it.

I agree that players need to stop complaining and focus on the game. However, ejecting players that people spend good money to see is a bad idea IMO. I think a fine would be more appropriate.

Problem with fines is that it means very little to guys making tons of money. Why not blame the players? I'm sure they were informed of the rules.

While I readily acknowledge that I'm generalizing, I have seen far too many horrible calls at critical times in big games to view the situation as being an isolated problem. Nonetheless, regardless, of the frequency, dissent is part of the American ethic, and as long as that dissent doesn't get out of hand, there is no good reason not to permit it when refs make terrible calls. There were already pre-existing rules available to sanction those who break them.

The net result of this new rule, imo, will be to diminish rather than increase respect for NBA officials because the usual result of the imposition of censorship is the psychological phenomenon of reactance.

this rule is going to really screw a team during the playoffs, u can bet on that... i don't like it at all... just ref the game & stay out of the way... no one pays to get in to see the refs ejecting players... as long as there's no physical contact or overly demonstrative complaining, i don't see any reason to T a guy up.

i think it's justified... the NFL doesn't want their league becoming some joke like the WWE w/players coming out w/altered uniforms just to make themselves stand out... Chad Johnson can be a colorful personality w/o resorting to stupid stunts like putting "Ocho Cinco" on his uniform.

I think it's fine to t up a guy that throws up his arms and carry's on for a few seconds. Or a guy that has been warned 10 times for showing you up. But teeing up a guy who is just reacting to a poor call in a game that is full of emotion is silly. Nobody cares about the refs.
I just hope that people will like me

Kenny and Chuck said it best on Inside. This is a very emotional game and sometimes it's just a natural reaction. Personally, I think a warning for the first time should be done instead of the T.

Yeah, this is the Rasheed Wallace Rule, but the refs are far too protected with this thing.

Exactly! The bottom line is, this is a show that people pay large sums of money to watch.. This doesn't affect the corporate groups which hog a large portion or the seats, but I'm talkin' about REAL FANS!

If I just paid $300.00 a seat and watched (for example) Melo get ejected (for tossing a head-band), I'm completely disapointed and would serisouly have to question spending that kind of money again. Why go to the game, when I can watch on TV for free?

What's next, the palyers aren't allowed to chest-bump or high-five because it's too physical? The entire game is headed in the "too soft" area and I don't like it. Just my opinion though

Its terrible, I know they want to clean up the game, but every athlete gets frustrated and sometimes the natural reaction is to get upset, and the refs make terrible judgement calls. Its really going to have to be changed, especially because half of these guys think who the **** they are.....there is going to be a ton of ejections
