For those who resent the quotes or style attributed to Marbury, here's an alternate take:

"We showed signs of being resilient and at times we showed signs of doing what we weren't supposed to do," Marbury said. "It feels good to win but it's a journey."

Just win baby

earl, the problem is marbury rarely sustains that attitude. how many seasons deteriorate into "all alone" or "starbury" or some such s**t. in his 10 years, i've seen 2 exceptions - his phoenix year when he kicked parker's butt in the 1st round of the playoffs and then in his 1st year here when he tried to hold us together against the nets without h2o and tiny tim. but other than that, where does he show that he's relliable when his team goes through adversity?

Marv - I'm willing to give everyone a fresh start for the new season. Even the human dart board - Marbury.

I have not always admired or agreed with how Stephon handled himself. I interviwed him during his one year at Georgia Tech and he KNEW it was just a stopover on the way to the NBA. Da noive of dat guy.

But he did have an entire extended family hanging on his success. How many of us have dealt with that level of responsibility?

To be certain, his mangled quotes irritate those who love their basketball players humble and docile but, Marbury is generous and more sensitive to the human condition that most who critique his every move. The huge Katrina relief donation and the $15 kicks are bold steps.

I submit the flawed (aren't we all flawed?) young man is not the devil incarnate as some people want to paint him. His main compass has been his his Coney Island instincts. For better or worse.

Let's hope that Isiah will make him smile for the cameras. Let's hope the words that come out of his mouth make his team mates happy. That's all that matters.

It's a new season.

Why not watch how it plays out?

The Knicks started last year 0-5.

I like 1-0 much better

earl, my comments are strictly about what happens on the court. i've always liked the guy a lot and have rooted like crazy for him to succeed. but i don't like the impact his game and on-court behavior have on a team's success. i no longer believe he's capable of being a starting pg on a winning team. i want him out of here because i think he holds franchises back from developing winning squads. sad but true. it's not about giving him any more chances for me. i've seen enough of it for enough years.

If Marbury holds the Knicks from winning you think Isiah will choose his relationship with Marbury over his own NBA career?

i bet his mom kicked his ass after reading that!

it's a good question. i'm not sure to what extent isiah truly believes in steph anymore, versus how much he feels stuck with him (i.e., untradable) and has to ride the horses he's got. plus he's on a bent to try to unify the team, and you know a benched marbury will recruit some guys to pout with him.

Trading him for a pile of **** would make this team better; Memphis game Curry has a huge rejection hustles down the floor and steph doesn't get him the ball and takes it up himself......

CANCER!

I'll take 25 othe pgs before him, everyone hates him

besides Marv - if Steve Howe can get seven opportunities to come back after documented drug violations, why can't Marbury be given a fresh start for a funky attitude?

the howe stuff was about off-the-field behavior. i'm talking about steph's on-th-couirt impact. i don't think he's a winning pg.

Marv - let's say Marbury is gone... would you turn the reins over to Steve Francis or Jamal?

not if luke ridenour is available!

believe me, i don't see franchise or jamal as winning pg's either. it's all part and parcel of isiah's failure as a gm. he hasn't put together a coherent squad. but if dolan is as behind him as it seems, then i bet isiah can preserve his career by dumping marbury abd convincing dolan that it's in the interest of turning the corner for this franchise.

EXACTLY WHY ISIAH DOESN"T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME, look who is waiting in the wings (M. Williams, Lowry and Rondo all would have been much better for this team), but he didn't want to move Nate, Jamaal, and brought in Francis)

And his coaching style encourages freedom which is something this team can't excel with Marbury, Francis, Nate, Crawford all make terrible decisions when the pace is up.

He is trying to run and is starting mind you a team of four half court players, who are one way players and bring nothing to the table on the defensive end.
Marbury, Francis, Curry, Frye

Marbury, Nate (Jefferies when healthy), Q, Lee, Curry is the team you want to be starting if you want to run, but he feels obligated because "Larry" wanted Francis to start him, Frye can't excel in a fast break offense. And your first two off the bench are Frye for Curry and Craw/Francis for Steph which is really the only way this team has a small chance of winning, because the starters are going to run into huge deficits.

I could care less what Marbury says. Win games and everyone will love him. Everyone keeps looking for solutions and keeps wondering why he isn't loved. It's that simple. Shut up and win. Nobody wants to hear someone talk about how great they are when their team is losing. It's not about you, it's about the team. Shut up and play more than 6 games this year.

I really liked what marbury had to say. We won the game and everyone seems to still hate him. Most keep looking for reason to hate him.

It's that simple.

He was the second best back court player last night and he's still being run under the bus.

Interesting.

I guess 82-0 is the only redemption.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Wow you really had to search for that play huh. The guy defers all night but is still a ball hog. Right. If you want to knock him on something then knock the defense he played, trying to say he played selfishly is silly.

Who cares who likes him or not. Why do you care so much? If people don't like him isn't that their right? he obviously does things that you like. He obviously does things that others don't like. Get over it. He will win fans but shutting his mouth and winning. We keep looking for theories as to why he isn't liked. It's that simple. shut up and win and you will have fans. It's such a simple answer I still can't beleive that 10 years into his career it's still an issue. When you write "all alone" on your sneakers it's up to you to change the perception. 6, 7 years later he hasn't done a good job of it. Nobody wants to hear a career loser talk about how great they are. It isn't just Marbs, it's everyone. Shut up and play and you will earn respect.

In our league we have about 5 of us that play at about the same skill level. Before games I shake the refs hands. I know them all by name. I thank them and shake their hands after games. When they make a bs call against me I am as angry as anyone else. I don't biotch. 9 times out of 10 I dont' say anything. I immediately grab the ball and hand it to the guy like he was my best friend. If I get fouled and their is no call I don't stop for an instant to glare at a ref. I just play. I play as if it's a pick up game where there are no foul calls. If I'm really angry at the call I will say something like "great call" or "you got me". In my head it's sarcasm, but to them they think they made a "great call". The other 4 guys biotch and moan and scream at the refs(who are pretty bad and really deserve to get yelled at). They mutter under their breath. They talk behind their backs but loud enough so they can hear. They stop in the middle of a play with the ball at their feet to argue at a ref...........When it's a tough game none of these 4 can figure out why I get "all the calls". Fans can't figure out why I get "all the calls". There are simple answers in life but some of us just can't see.

Marbs can't see.

The fact of the matter is that Marbury is untradeable and so we are more than likely stuck with him for three more years. Other than his defense, I like what I saw from him Wednesday. For the most part, he played under control and passed the ball. More importantly, he did not disappear when the game was on the line. His defense was horrible. Atkins should not be able to consistently blow by someone as atlethic as Marbury. It was not a lack of effort as it appeared to be a lack of instincts and technique. IT really needs to work with him on his defensive technique and the importance of studying other players' tendencies. Overall, I think we can win with Marbury. He seems to be at a point in his career in which he realizes that only winning will help improve his reputation. It is great that he is a "winner in life," but the Knicks pay him $20 mill a year to be a winner on the basketball court. I think (hope) that he is starting to get that. One good game down, 81 more to go.

I don't have to like him to root for success.

He warrants little clean slate after 10 years.

As long as he is a knick, I will root for the teams success. He is a member of the team.

It will take a while for me to BELIEVE in him! That FAITH has to be earned.

What he does off the court is ok by me. Its not anything monumental and it appears to be disgenuine at times. Regardless he at least cares about what people think of him and what he does off the court is positive.
