he's not as strong but certainly more mobile.

He had a good setshot last year, don't know where that has gone to.

Always goes left on the dribble.

Lee is a better rebounder than Oakley at the same stage of his carere. Lee's defense is nowhere near as good. Part of the reason is that he is concetrating so much on rebounding that he doesn't always play his man.

Lee is a better shooter at the same stage, and has much more skill. I don't see him ever becoming an enforcer though.

He's a far better athlete than Oak-tree was. As a defender I'm not sure he's quite where Oak was, although Charles used to get burned by top PF's of the day like LJ, Barkley and Malone. But Lee looks great and is clearly key to any kind of success the Knicks are going to have this season.

lee's active...more in the camby mold than oakley.

lee is not pinning people under the basket and pushing people out of the way. he's getting to the boards b/c of his quickness and leaping ability.

Someone asked this question on another board. My answer:

David Lee has a lot more talent on Oak- main thing being how great a passer he is and how he can break down defenders and set up teammates. He also can finish and get out on the break. Witness his reverse dunks and athletic blocked shots- nothing Oakley could do.
Then again, he's not as strong and won't be the stalwart post defender Oak was. Or be the intimidating presence, or even have the same hustle (Lee is a great hustle player but Oak went after every loose ball, drew every charge).

That said, Lee can be one of the best complementary players in the game. A guy who makes his teammates better and makes the team better just by being on the floor and doing the things he can do. IF he gets 25-30 mpg he's gonna average 10 boards. Count on it.

What was really amazing is that he never backed down after getting his shot blocked a couple of times. We don't win the game without his hustle plays. He reminds me of Debuschure. Oaklye was more of an intimidator than Lee.

Lee reminds me, in some ways, of Anthony Mason. Great rebounder, very good ball handler, outstanding passer, limited & somewhat clumsy shooter, ambidexterous.

Lee will only get bigger, thicker, and stronger as he gets older. Hes what, 22? Wait till hes 28 and has an extra 20-30 lbs of muscle.

Hes going to be a rebounding beast

I don't think he's ever gonna be the intimadater Oakley was, but he's certainly a warrior. Richardson is a warrior too. Those guys are Knicks. Hopefully Isiah won't deal them for Darius Miles and/or Chris Webber

I think Isiah LOVES the 3 rookies from last year and won't trade them unless a KG type player becomes available.

I really like David Lee a lot. I think drafting him was Isiah's very best decision.

It is interesting how many really good players have been picked at the last spot in the first round. I always wondered why Josh Howard dropped so far, he was simply excellent in college. Lee was excellent too. Too many GM's gambling on talent and skipping proven players.

David Lee isn't as physically imposing as Oakley. Oakley was a tough guy and wasn't afraid to let opposing players know it. Lee is a very good rebounder, but not as good as Oak was when he was a young player. Oakley developed into a very good defensive player.
We'll see if Lee does. Both are good passers. Oakley had a better outside shot, but Lee is more athletic and can finish better.

All in all, I like Lee a lot. We were lucky to get him where we did. But Oakley was a better player than Lee.

good assessment. I thought Oak was an average passer at best and that Lee can become a VERY good passer with time.
