The Writer is David Boroff and the column is called basket case. I like him cuz he's one of few optimistic and positive Knick writers. He's not ashamed to be a Knick Fan. This is an excerpt from what he wrote yesterday before the Knicks 1st game:

You might laugh at me. But I am going to tell you this - the Knicks are going to be fun and interesting to watch this season.

The reason? Isiah Thomas.

No, I am not crazy. I did not get hit in the head with a Jerome James free throw or a Nate Robinson dunk attempt.

I have been a Knicks fan since the mid-70s. If you are like me (if you are 40-ish and a Knick fan), you are kind of screwed. You are too young to have savored either of their championships, but you are old enough to wonder if they will get a title in your lifetime. So watching this team rebuild is hard (I have the same frustration with my other winter team, the Jets). But judging from what I've seen from a fan's perspective, I think the Knicks will be one of the surprises of the NBA.

This is what he wrote after last nights game:

My friend Charles told me yesterday that I was wearing rose-colored glasses because of my optimism in the Knicks.

You know what? He's absolutely right. But the early part of the season is definitely a time to have a positive outlook and hope for the best. And after watching last night's thrilling 118-117 triple-overtime victory over Memphis in the season opener, I think I am going to leave those glasses on a little while longer.

I am a realist. There is a reason why this column is called Basket Case - I was one during the first two minutes of the third overtime when the Grizzlies got four consecutive possessions thanks to three straight offensive rebounds.

The Knicks couldn't rebound to save their lives last night, and they can't afford to blow 19-point fourth-quarter leads like they did last night. However, the players left on the floor played hard and showed a lot of composure at the end of the game - a great sign.

There's more good stuff of course, but I like his angle.

Good to see the rare sportswriter who expresses some degree of optimism.
