Because they are thin in the middle in more ways than one, the Knicks absolutely need Camby's rebounding and shot-blocking to be at their best on both ends of the court. Although he has yet to develop a reliable go-to move down low, Camby has improved his baseline jumper. Still, his most effective scoring comes when he crashes the offensive boards from the weak side for putbacks.

With Camby's improved shot he will be able to hit 15 foot jumpers and score more consistently. He could always handle the ball well for a big man, but playing away from the basket will open up things for Sprewell, Houston, and Anderson to slash. Thoughts?
I have always thought that a key to the Knicks' success - more important than Camby bulking up - was Camby's ability to consistently hit the outside shot. After watching last years games it seemed clear to me that Van Gundy had the same thoughts: At the beginning of each game he would run a play that ended with Camby shooting the 15 footer. You are right, with Camby moving out of the lane would force an opposing big man to guard him and allow slasher to the hole.
