By MARC BERMAN
October 22, 2006 -- UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Jerry Seinfeld was on hand last night as part of Mohegan Sun's 10th anniversary, along with the Knicks-Celtics. Naturally, the Garden celebrity row regular during the playoff years of the mid-1990's was asked during his press conference, "So what's the deal with the Knicks?"

The Queens College and Massapequa native said he's no longer a big Knicks fan.

"I'm not that big a Knicks fan, I used to go to games," Seinfeld said. When asked what he thought of their demise, Seinfeld said, "I haven't really been following it, so I'm a fair-weather fan. When they're winning, I follow it. I'm more of a fair-weather fan."

There was a thread about a week ago about Knick pride...poster were saying essentially when the Knicks stink they really don't pay too much attention to the team and this may be another year of that...As a Knick fan who has rooted for Louis Orr and Rory Sparrow,,Neil Walk and Larry Demic, this line of thought is foreign to me...So yeah, these guys ae out there...I didn't think they would be in this forum giving the effort it takes to keep up with what goes on here and with the team...Nothing wrong with that I guess, I just feel cheated when I get into a heated argument with one of these blokes...

i hear ya...it's tough because before the internet, these types of arguments only occurred with nets, celtic and sixer fans.

To go back and forth with "knick fans" is basically a byproduct of the internet, where you can say you are a knick fan, but in reality, they are a fair weather fan.

in real life, all these guys are real knick fans are are simply playing devil's advocate via internet muscles.

If the same so called "haters", show up at the games or the opening night get together, it's all knicks all the time.

You won't hear the "this team is going to suck" mantra in real life.

some of us like to keep it all real all the time.

with respect to last night's pre season game, if you feel any vindication from hating, I simply look to the following and I know all I need to know...
It was also a game where victory was not necessarily paramount. Following a close and hard-fought first seven minutes, Thomas brought in end-of-the-bench free agents Milone Clark, Elton Brown, and Paul Miller way earlier than usual -- and the game was never fully competitive after that. “I wanted to see what they can do against some of the best players in the league such as Paul Pierce and Wally Szczerbiak,” said the coach. “Tonight, that was the most important thing. It really disrupted the rhythm and the flow. We were never able to get back in it.”

I was one of those guys who lost interest for a while, so I guess I'm a fair weather fan too.

I didn't lose interest because the Knicks sucked though. I lost interest because they were boring. Last season I was intersted again because the Knicks finally drafted some promising rookies. Oh yeah, and they got a HOF coach too. That didn't work out so well, but the season wasn't boring.

Any kNick fan watching the team after the last 3 years is probably not a "fair weather fan"
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Yeah, as long as someone watching the games i dont think they are fair weather fans. A negative or positive attitude doesnt testify to someones loyalty, whether or not they follow the team does. My older brother loves to talk s..t about the knicks, but he doesnt follow one game. I took him to the garden last year when i got some free tix and all he did was scream at larry brown (they were pretty good seats.)

That would be ok but he hadnt watched a single game all season b4 then. THAT is a fair weather fan.

This from a jackass who says he has gone to a UK get together but didn't let anyone know he was there or who he was. I guess that's just you not having your internet muscles so you remained a chicken ****e loser.

If you noticed, and I can only assume you did since you highlighted it, Seinfeld said that he hasn't really been following the Knicks. I think it's very safe to say that the people you're looking to bash on this forum have been following the Knicks extremely closely and know a hell of a lot more about what is going on with them than you do. That's because they actually open their eyes to whats going on instead of just hoping and praying that everything will be ok.

What is the point of this thread? That Seinfeld is a fair-weather fan?
So what? Lots of people like to be entertained by sports. Doesn't mean
that everybody has to be as obsessed as we are. When they
aren't entertained, they don't waste their time.

Perhaps we are the losers sitting here arguing everyday about a team that
hasn't made the playoffs in years, and last year finished SECOND-TO-LAST.
You think Seinfeld doesn't have better things to do than watch a team
which got blown out in 5 of the 7 games that I went to last year?

when they suck, or are boring only a fool would stay rabid!

This is entertainment, I stick with until it hurts. When its painful to watch, then why bother? I got a life. It ain't much, but why support when the team don't care.

Thats pretty fair in my eyes.

I watched about 60 games last year and really did not bother with the last 10 or so.

Regarding Marbury, he is a walking contradiction. If you piece together all his statements its pretty discouraging. He never gave it a shot last year.

This happens again I will take a step back and just bitch and moan.

Or just click on the Alba thread and just moan.

hey, the fact that not too many people got upset shows that Seinfeld is a fair weather fan.

I think people that post on message boards are anything but fair weather...I just thought it was funny (no pun intended) that seinfeld (who was all over the knicks when they were winning) is now a true blue met fan and not so much a knick fan.

I thought it was great that he manned up and just came clean that he was in fact a fair weather fan.

I didn't care too much for the knicks when they got rid of camby and then spreewell.

And, I'm not going to say I'm an all out knick fan through think and thin.

I was a Dr. J fan (back when you could only muster enough concentration to focus on one player) and that turned me into a sixer fan.

But I became a true knick fan just AFTER the riley years.

I mean, I rooted for them, but the season tickets and jersey's all happened just after the Riley era.

I love spreewell and camby and wasn't so much a starks and oakley fan. when I played my buddies in nba on Sega, I was usually the Magic with Shaq or I was the charlotte hornets trying to drop 100 on riley and ewing. (sorry guys)

But I am what I am.

also, I may have been misquoted or taken out of context...I've never been to a ultimate knick get together...working my schedule now to see if I can make this one...but with a baby, the cowboys playing washington (got tix) and basically life with my actual "real life" friends...it may not be in the cards...but still working on it.

Still, it was an interesting topic and I thought it would spur some conversation.

This si pretty much where I was. I missed the last 15 or so games, the season was stealing my joy.

Insert Larry Brown into that statement and it rings far truer.
