I like the kid. I think he will be a good role player this season. I dont ever see him being a star of any kind. Thats just my opinion. But thats not what Ive been thinking about. Isiah seems to want some sort of props that Balkman has shown he wasnt a "2nd round" pick. I have a few problems with this self back patting Isiah is after.
1) Balkman was drafted #20. He should be better than 2nd round picks. Isiah doesnt deserve props for him not being a 2nd round pick. In fact he should be better than guys like Rondo and Marcus Williams as well since he was drafted before them. #20 is not that low a pick.
2)Isiah spent around 32 million dollars for this pick. If I'm Dolan I'm thinking this guy better be the real deal and even better than a normal #20 pick for the 32 million I laid out to draft him.
3) Isnt it a bit early to declare anything. Ive liked Balkmans hustle so far but at this point I have no idea if he will ever get to Malik Rose level. I'm speaking of Rose level when he was on the Spurs not on the Knicks.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

agree with most.

But 20 isn't that high- I have no idea what the actual numbers- I remember reading an article that examined picks and in the 20 range, its a crap shoot.

And I don't think he has to be better - #'s wise- just stay in the league and make meaningful contributions, fit in, and help win some games.

In the 2 pre-season games I saw he has already surpassed malik roses level. I also think he has does have a chance to be a star.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

We have played in 3 preseason games and Malik was a pretty good player for the spurs for years. He didnt get handed 8 mill a year from the cheap Spurs for nothing

He won't be a star, but he could be an impact player, especially if he can develop a mid range jumper.

Balkman won't be a star or an impact player. He is a scrub that hustles. Period.

Man, what are you guys drinking?

i think its to early to sat anything. All we do know is that he has athletic talent and looks as he can handle the ball well. By midseason well know if it was a good pick or not.

In the offense that IT is going to run, Balkman, if given starters minutes, could easily average 16 pts and 9 rebounds. In fact, based on his preseason numbers, if he were given 34 minutes per game he would be averaging about 16 points and 11 rebounds. That does not sound like a scrub to me. I am not sure if he can become an all-star or star player, but I think he can and will be a good/impact player in this league.

He will have a career and might even justify his draft status. Thomas messed up and was called out for it. He has been waiting for a chance to say I told you so. I am not sure why Thomas took Balkman over Williams but I am beginning to think that it might have been because he wanted to show everyone what an eye for talent he has and had targeted Balkman and chose him despite Williams being available. It is all about Thomas the outsider.

say what you want about the balkman, but he aint no scrub. Granted, we need to wait and see what type of player he develops into, but he does have some skills.

Balkman reminds me of Richard Jefferson. No one really thought he was gonna be the player he is now.

Even though I said that balkmans handle is way better than jeffersons even to this day.

Balkman did hit a three already and it looked clean. So the dude can shoot but just hasn't ever been asked to do it consistantly.

People talk about stats but itsmind boggling how a guy as good as balkman wasn't allowed to do more at the college level. He has a very crisp and under control handle with a great ability to finish in traffic.

I tell you what though balkman and lee look great together. I hope they both can be knicks for life.

We can depend on Balkman being a good defensive player, a high energy player and a guy who can handle the ball and drive. The question is whether he develops any kind of shot. It's too early to say. Sometimes it happens; sometimes it doesn't.

Eny, Jefferson was drafted 13 and was traded with Collins and Brandon Armstrong for Eddie Griffin(the 7th pick in that draft). At least two teams(the Nets, The Rockets) thought he would be pretty good, IMO. Griffin was supposed to be a monster coming out of college.

I just think Isiah is looking for some back patting for all the wrong reasons at this point. Its like a guy that nails some free throws in the 1st qtr expectingt a standing ovation

The guy has played exactly 3 preseason games and we are already to declare that he is good or not good and what type of career he will have?

We won't even be able to tell what type of offseason improvement he can show us - the real determinant of what a CAREER will be like - until after next summer. Sheesh.

Pretty much my point. Its too early to be looking for some back patting on the pick. especially when he was #20 not a 2nd round pick.

Renaldo Balkman is the right guy for the Knicks.

What Balkman brings won't always show up in the box score, but his name will eventually show up in the opponents chalk board when he gets the minutes.

It's like the guy is cut from the oldschool mode of the hustling Anthony bonner the explosiveness of a young john starks as he attacks the basket.

Now that jefferies is out ,Isiah has no choice but to play the young man to see if he has what it takes when the real bullets fly.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
