Scouting report: Frye is a multifaceted scorer. The staple of his game is a very accurate midrange shot that makes him dangerous on pick-and-pop plays, but he can also fake the shot and drive, and despite his thin frame he can score from the block. Frye is mostly right-handed at this point and needs a better move going back to his left, and he's going to be a magnet for double-teams if his Assist Ratio doesn't improve.
Frye's length makes it tough to block his shot, and he has good quickness and spring when he goes toward the basket. He'll need to get stronger to improve his ability to finish in close, but he has great hands around the rim and his ability to play up top makes him a fine complement for Eddy Curry.
Frye is a decent shot-blocker, but otherwise he's a very poor defender. He doesn't recover well back to his man in help situations, and his blocks come at the cost of constantly leaving his feet on opponents' pump fakes. Frye also fouled too much, often trying to make up for his lack of bulk by leaning with all his might against an opponent in the post. Some time in the weight room would help, but he has a thin frame so there's only so much that can be done. He'll have to make up for it with superior effort and fundamentals, and he has a ways to go.
2006-07 outlook: With the man who drafted him now on the sideline, Frye would have to screw up horribly to avoid starting. He's deserving of the position too.
His offensive skills should only continue to develop in his second season, and based on his projected 40-minute averages, a 20-10 season doesn't seem completely far-fetched. But to do that, he'll have to cut his foul rate and simultaneously improve as a defender.

um, going by Hollinger's ratings... how the hell is chuck hayes rated ahead of channing?
Better yet, how the hell is Chuck Hayes rated ahead of Dwight Howard who is #15. When I saw that, that's when I stopped reading.

yeah, that's ridiculous. this "predicting" PERs that seems to ignore the obvious is pretty dumb. if Howard has a lower PER than Chuck Hayes this season, I'll buy Hollinger dinner.
