I just saw on the ESPN bottom line that jerry west is going to retire at the end of the season. The grizz aren't great but he's definitely improved them - IF things don't go well this season and Isiah is let go, is there any chance west could be our new GM?

What about Allan Houston? It said in that article that he would want to work in a front office.

Houston has ZERO experience.

If Isiah goes, the Knicks should only hire a GM who has proven track record of building winning teams, and Mills should not make the hire. In fact, he should be fired even if Isiah succeeds, as I expect him to do.

West would be great but my guess is that he is truly done and will not return to basketball.

I think he did a good job didn't have much to work with and its not his fault that the number two pick in the draft that would have been Melo or Wade went to Detriot because of his previous GM

The Mike Miller deal worked out well, Drew Gooden isn't anything special

The Eddie Jones deal was a good one

He drafted Battier and then flipped him for a very talented player in Rudy Gay, we will see how that one works out.

He is in a tough market, I would love to have him working with the Knicks, fire Steve Mills and bring in some competant people that Isiah can't hire.....No GM or organization would have hired Marburys relatives, that still is an indictment that Steph was running the show and could dictate who could be traded.....Thats where Isiah failed, most in his preferential treatment to the franchise killer

bringing in guys w/ HOF credentials doesnt work in Knick land. He would probably be fired for keeping his draft picks or something.

New York is a "what have you done for me lately" kind of city. See last years LEAGUE MVP A-Rod.

Not really if a guy goes out there and battles every game fans won't be as hard, Q had a lot of fans because of his d and hustle last year....

New York doesn't like people that try to hard for acceptance......

by the way this Billy Wagner exclusive in the post everday is making me want to throw up

I believe all of isiah's hard work will come to light this year.

he brought in every player, the website is much nicer and there are plasmas at the hot dog stands.

I like West, but I think he really needs a break. He's been hard at it for a long time now. I'd love for him to be here if he's got the energy to do the job as he did in LA, but not if his heart isn't 100% in it. No more guys coming here to get that big retirement paycheck.

Isiah tho could start to show that his work has been for our longterm benefit if this team starts winning. If last year had gone the way it should've, he would've taken 2.5 years to get the team going in the right direction and that would be considered EXCELLENT work for ANY GM. So to me one more year shouldn't change that view much. Boston's going into 4th year with Ainge and he's still trying to make it work too. Billy Knight has been in Atlanta for about as long and he's still trying to get something going.

If Isiah does do a good job this year, I still think it would be a good idea to hire someone else to take his GM duties (not Glen Grunwald), while he focuses on coaching. Then again, anyone with a good track record would want to hire their own coach.

Billy Knight is terrible and showed have been fired a long time ago, isiah has been a disaster for the franchise I can't believe that anyone still buys into his crap....

He has added towns of payroll, brought in player with no desire to win with long term deals, hired three different coaches and disrespected them all, found jobs for marburys relatives, been ivolved in a messy lawsuit, damaged the knicks franchise and interest, and taken the knicks out of the national spotlight......

For the hundreds of millions he has brought in we have a few promising rotation players, Frye, Lee, Crawford, perhaps Balkman

When I saw the headline I knew this would be a subject.

WE need a plan, then hire the GM that is strong at that.

Don't hire a Geek like layden whom is a good one thing and ask him to do another.

And don't bring in Isiah without a plan!

The owner should dictate the direction! Right or wrong, thats how it should be.

The Lakers under West hired Joe Bryant as a "special advisor". The guy is now coaching the LA Sparks.

I'm not ready to fire isiah yet. I think this is gonna be a special year for the knicks.

As far as jerry west? Let the dude retire. His best moves I think was to hire hubie brow and following that with mike fratello. I don't like the talent he put together or the signings. Just like paxson with the bulls. For the life of me I can't understand how these guys manage to win with the groups they put together.

I guess if your team wins you are a genius. Knicks should win this year. Hopefully we can take it to jerrys kids for first blood.

if Jerry had a protegee type person that could be the GM and have West be a Steve Mills type position, it might be something.

Jerry West might be good because Dolan might actually trust him to do his own thing, and not try to make the GM's satisfy his every whim.
