its the kind of company that will get a nice run on news but may never turn a profit. Best hope for them is they develop some nice technology and get bought by a big pharm company.

Its not a good investment, good for day trading maybe

Fishmike--that's all jibber-jabber
there is NO doubt in my mind that this stock is going up. Any stock that goes UP is a tremendous investment, especially when looking at potential% return yield here. If a stock or company had to make money as a prerequsite to invest, Microsoft would not be here today. I am a high yield risk/reward player and I've had just a tad bit of success.

saying profit potential isnt important is a bit ignorant no? Unless you believe gene therapy is a sector thats going to explode I dont see it. Stem cells? Maybe.. but these guys are a way off. What about their products/business model/research plans has you feeling so good?

what is the company--really it's an R+D company focused on the human genome. one of my new neighbors works for curagen which got me interested in the stock in general. these were once high flying speculative plays and they are still speculative, and while we wont see speculation turn into billions in market cap anymore, they sure can drive a stock there is no general business model for RD companies other than bringing their research to commercial productivity--- at which times most of these small bio's are acquired by much larger companies. in my believe, from my conversations and what i have learned-- and looking at the technical trading, i believe the stock is poised for a signifcant run based on both technical and fundamental factors that move stock upwards. it may need to retest 3.50[maybe] but action in the stock isnt dictating it.

Hey whose got some resources for someone who is interested in investing for growth? I don't want to day trade. I just want my savings to do a little work for me. I'm not risk-adverse. Send me a link or two if you got one.

evil--there is going to be a real dead spot in real estate within two years. When interest rates rise, all of these people who took interest only loans will be defaulting left anf right and people with cash and know how are going to walk in and make a killing. I am presently taking a real estate liscencing course twice a week and will continue to educate myself over the next year to be in position for what I believe will be a very lucrative opportunity. In terms of risk, good real estate is a tremendous tangible asset and if you buy low, the risk/reward ratio in terms of history is on your side in a big way. Obviously you can live in it, lease it rent it or any combination while the market turns back 3-4 years from now. If you can find the right gig, you can probably look at 16-18% yearly gains from appreciation and rental/lease fees. the whole key is knowing the market and what you are doing. Im always trying to learn new things and I know there is big money to be made in any market condition--even if it means doing nothing. As far as right now, they have risk-free CD's in the mid 4s and that will only rise--risk free menaing you can have access to capital if you wish after one week without paying a penalty. Paying off the back end of your morgage is also a good invetsment as you are likely paying +6%--so if you dont feel you can make 6% or more, pay down the mortage. It's safe and smart

Ive been involved in the equity market since I was 18--20 years experience. I would not recommend going out and throwing money around at an e-trade account by yourself.
Cheers

If you want to throw money around, go to a strip club. Low risk (unless you date a hot lead singer in a band or something) and high reward.

Thanks for the tips guys...

Briggs, I got everything you said except -- I don't get the part about the mortgage. What does paying the back end mean? What does paying down mean? Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not up on this stuff. What's a good source of info on the subject?

Martin, are you suggesting a post-UK-get-together investment party?

CuraGen's stock peaked at $114.25 on the last day of February in 2000. On Oct. 1, the day the Celldex deal closed, one share cost less than a cup of Starbucks coffee — $1.44.
