The whole team has been practicing together in Weschester for awhile now, and Marbury is touring around doing his sneaker thing. Anybody else see something wrong here?

For me vets don't have to show up early. They normally have their own routines and I'm okay with him not showing up. But it does just go to show that leadership is an issue with him. After last season a true leader would be leading the charge and yelling at others for not being there. You just can't expect that tyep of thing from him.

Come on guys ease up. Steph is supposed to report today, which is still early. The guy has been all over the place doing what he can to support a new product launch. Its a commitment to his business partner and I can't see that as somehow a sign that he's not thinking about his leadership role on the team.
Curry and Francis aren't there yet either, but as long as they come to camp in shape and ready to contribute, I have no problem with that.

What do you mean ease up? I just sadi I'm okay with him not showing up. If he wants to sell his shoe I'm okay with that. I have no doubt the guy was working out all season. But thinking about your leadership and being a leader are two different things. After a season like last season a true leader would be leading the charge. I'm not bashing Steph, he's just not a leader. He'll come in and do his thing and that's great. But once again it will be upon others to uplift us. Not Steph.

Nixluva, if Curry and Francis are playing bball and working out then I'm fine with that. But if Marbury is busy doing his product work and doesn't have his mind focused on basketball, then I do have a problem with that. If he's ready and prepared to play great and be a leader, then I am happy for his success with his product. The Knicks are first. Not his shoes.

i didn't expect him to be there the whole time anyway... that's my new way of thinking w/Marbury... the less i expect from him, the less i get disappointed... seems to be working so far this offseason.

What would you rather him do, save the world or save the Knicks?

He's made his choice...

Marbs is not the best public speaker. He says a lot of stupid things but him not being in westchester yet is not a problem. Marbs never came into a season out of shape.

As far as leadership is concerned, he technically should be with the team right now. Everyone should be together right now. Its not all about marbs all the time.

Monday is when the ball should get rolling so until Monday, as long as marbs doesn't plan on driving cross country or punching the walls of his boat then smoke a blunt and just relax already.

After a season like last season, I find it hard to beleive that the entire team isn't here but again my standards tend to be high. So allow me to lower my standards and express my joy that our leader along with our overweight franchise guy will simply show up on time instead of early. It's a long pre-season so I can wait/"weight" for their leadership I guess.

Our Leader? I thougth Isiah established last season that Marbury is not the leader of the Knicks, he is (Isiah). So if the leader of the team isn't demanding Steph to be there, why should we? Like other folks said, I'm sure Steph along with MOST professional basketball players has kept in shape and kept up with his conditioning. And secondly, we all already know that Steph is not that type of player. He is not a leader. Why do we keep bashing him on things we already know. Anytime you can sit on the bench for an entire season and wear a towel over your head anytime the team is losing is a BIG sign that you are not a leader. Patrick Ewing with all of his limitations was more of a leader. Maybe not as vocal as people would have liked but he never sulked and carried on the way Marbury does. But I don't think the Knicks need him to be a "leader" on this team. He needs to come in and be the Stephon that the team traded for. He wasn't a leader that way before he got here. What made you think he was going to magically turn into one?
By the way, why not bash Curry? If ANYBODY NEEDS TO BE IN CAMP EARLY ON THIS TEAM IT'S CURRY. He was out of shape the entire season and needs the most work to me. But you all get so stuck on Starbuy, it's hard to see anyone else.
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

I'm with you on this 100%. Nothing you said goes against anything I've ever said. If you read one of my prior posts I ALSO MENTIONED CURRY( I called him our "overweight franchise guy. I thought it was obvious who I was talking about). I agree with you that Marbs is not our leader. I remember Isiah saying that. But when you design offenses for the guy, get rid of people he doesn't play well with, kiss his butt for 2 years and give him whatever he wants when he wants it then you can call it what you want but the organization is propping him up as our leader. That has been my point about Marbs for 2 years now. He isn't a leader. He never will be. It's unfair for us to expect him to be one. I have no problem with this. You are callign it bashing but I am okay with this and do not consider it a negative at all. We have a lot of guys on our team that aren't leaders. So why does our organization keep treating him like one????

Marbury has already said Isiah made him captain this year. Can we please stop saying he's NOT this team's leader? He may not be a good one, but he's got all the power of a leader to use or abuse.

"By me being a captain of the team and point guard, it puts things in perspective on what [Thomas is] trying to do," Marbury said.

What does that even mean? Stephon has had the same responsibilities for years. This shouldn't be some new perspective that blows him away. I'm so sick of this guy and his act.

He also said this BTW:

The word "championship" flowed easily from Marbury's lips yesterday. After a season of chaos and infighting, Thomas' biggest task is establishing a set rotation. With the addition of Jared Jeffries and potential bench role for first-rounder Renaldo Balkman, big names Jalen Rose, Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose and Maurice Taylor probably are out of the rotation, with potential for turmoil.

"Everybody's happy," Marbury countered. "Because the people who aren't happy, they'll be asking for trades. I don't think we'll have any of those dudes. "

I don't know about anyone else but I read that as a thinly veiled threat that complaining will be tantamount to asking for a trade. A policy that seems good enough for isiah, but not Brown.

(I only mention that here because in the article I quoted above this was the passage that immediately followed. Not trying to derail this thread!)

All 46 NY Rangers players and candidates to the team was on camp 2-3 weeks before it started.
Injured Jagr was skaiting with the team from day 1.
And this is after great season...

The Rangers dumped/traded all the players who had 1/10 of the selfishness of Marbs 2 years ago.

Of course Marbury is a team leader. He led some players (the easily influenced young players) to revolt against Larry Brown last year because he didn't want to be the PG anymore and do it LB's way. That after all of 8 games.

You think Nate figured out the "Don't Shoot" protest all by his dumb little self?
