Hi guys!

As some of you may remember, 2 years ago my girlfriend and I made a trip to NYC for which I had asked you for some advices.
Since you helped me have a better stay, I wanted to get from you an answer to a burning question:
Is a trip to NYC between Dec 21 and 26 a good or a bad idea?

I now live in Montreal, Canada, and since we won’t go back to France for Christmas we wanted to do something special, and since we tremendously loved the place…
To spice things up, I have to say that my girlfriend wanted to offer me a trip to see the knicks at MSG as a birthday gift. As a longtime knick fan (nearly 15 years now, man I don’t get younger each day), it’s like a dream for me soon to come true.

So, what could you tell me about NY in this time period? Good? Bad? Should I wait and come back later?

Thx in advance for your answers.

Antoine

Christmas is a great time to visit NYC. If you go to see the Knicks before Xmas, be prepared to be in as a crowded a place as you have ever been, as the Garden is located right in one of the biggest shopping districts.

Hotels could be costly.

Still it should be great!

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

NY is awesome during the holidays. You'll probably have a great time. Like anything, it really depends on what you like.

u'r gonna love the city during the holidays... just be prepared for extremely crowded stores everywhere u go, & booking a hotel during that time might be an ordeal as well... & holiday traffic will be sick so allow for extra time to drive down from Montreal.

Just take a train to penn station and walk to time square and a million other places from there. It's relaxing and enjoyable, especially during the holidays. You might not be saying the same if you end up driving everywhere. You'll just keep getting a headache.

Any new Yorker will tell you Christmas is the best time to visit. Just go out as a family and just shop and eat. Enjoy the city.

Me personally I get a kick out of seeing people doing stuff that its too cold yo be doing, lol. You will be amazed to see so many people out even on the coldest of days.

I think I'd come by plane so I don4t have to think about traffic jams or such.

thing is, I got so many different echoes like :
- it's great, you'll see the NY christmas lights, which gives the city a beautiful outlook
- the weather is really crappy you won't be able to walk since it will be snowing and freezing
...

So i just don't know what to think. We've been browsing the web and the hotels we found were not that expensive, compared to what i saw last time I came, in september 2004. Sept was a very peak time regarding hotel prices, at least that was i noticed at that time.

My main concern is that I enjoyed walking down the streets so much, just looking at people and buildings, that Im kinda affraid to be freezing so much I won't be able to do it.
Am I completely wrong ?

Hey Evil, how is your band doing btw ?

We're good. We're playing this weekend. I have a really good feeling about this coming show. We're shooting a music video during our set, so you can be sure that I'll youtube it on here when it's edited and done.

The last show was an overwhelmingly awesome event. We nailed all our songs and we had a blast with a huge crowd and it was nice to hit that CBGB's stage one last time. It was probably the best show I've ever been involved in. The two people that I play with are just great; they are both best friends of mine. And I know they put a lot of work into our stuff (just like I do). It's hard to put into words how great it feels to see that hard work translate into something that is so fullfilling, not only for us, but for the audience too. So yeah, it was awesome -- thanks for asking.

I'll be around during the time you are here. I don't know if the band will be playing, but I do know I'll be on vacation. So if you wanna hit up a sports bar and watch a Knicks game with some UK New Yorkers -- let me know. Maybe we can have a few brews and watch the Knicks.

Well, look at it this way, if you know it's gonna be freezing -- all you have to do is be prepared. I'm never cold during the winter, but I also gear up like crazy. It wasn't always like that for me. Before I got into snowboarding I hated the winter. Ever since I started riding, I realize that you can be comfortable in low temperatures -- you just have to be prepared.

So I recommend getting some nice gloves, some nice head gear, a neck gator, some nice boots, a solid warm weatherproof jacket, some thermals and some thick socks. If you can still afford the trip after buying all that -- you're golden.

Raven, it really doesn't snow that much in NYC especially in Manhattan. If it does snow enough to accumulate, then you are in for a treat!

Usually around Christmas it is cold and clear, not really snowy. Just dress warm and you will have a hoot! Maybe you should stay through New Years and really party down!

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!
