On MSG's Boomer Esiason Show, Patrick Ewing said he should have finished his playing career where it started.

"It was both our faults, the Knicks and my own,'' Ewing said. "I should have ended my career with the Knicks.''

Ewing, who has resigned as an assistant to Jeff Van Gundy in Houston, said he would consider another job, but there is nothing going on right now. Ewing said he still roots for the Knicks, but he questions Eddy Curry's desire.

"Does he have the drive?'' Ewing said. "Does he want to be greater than myself?''

The show re-airs on MSG on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Also that Marbury needs to gather the team, stop crying, and distribute the ball.

Thats a weird statement asking if he wants to be "greater than myself"?

Maybe this is why hall of fame warrior tough players like Ewing are hare to become great coaches.

Eddy in his wildest dreams can never match the intensity of ewing. IN fact, there have been few that could. Patrick was a consumate professional in his preparation. His ego, which at times was his undoing was unbendable which drove him harder and harder to succeed.

Eddy has more natural talent that Patrick, but Ewing was a harder worker and had better stanima. Patrick was a better athlete.

I thought he did a good job with Yao and would do well with eddy.

Glad he recognizes that he should have stayed. It was just business back then, not much more.

He was getting boo'd at the garden, fans were groaning whenever he got the ball. It was sad.

BUt he was in denial as to his problems. He would not accept his deminished role or a buy out.

I'd like to see Patrick back with the Knicks. I think all Knick fans would like to see Patrick back with the Knicks at this point. Maybe a player personell?VP type of position where he stays long-term. Positions like GM/Coach are to volatile.

personally i would like him to be a assistant coach for the knicks. i think he would get more out of curry than aquirre. ewing did an excellent job with ming. he could do the same with curry.

That'd be a great idea Briggs. I really want Patrick back, especially in a prominent role so he can just light into this team whenever he wants too. If these guys had an OUNCE of Patricks desire...

i dunno if Patrick is really cut out for coaching... he didn't seem to really elevate Yao Ming's game any since he's been working with him in HOU.

I have to disagree with you. Ewing worked with Yao for 2 seasons, last season Yao was OUTSTANDING. Averaging 22.3ppg and 10.2rpg, both career highs by far. I'd say Patrick did a excellent job with Yao, if you saw any Rockets games last year, Yao was playing with intensity and that was the main thing that Patrick instilled in him.

Question is if he's lobbying to come back. Saying he never should have left seems to indicate he is; calling out Eddy in the press ... no so much. I'd be psyched if came back. He's my 2nd favorite Knick of all time.

I know, it's true, but it's sad. The team didn't need him any more, the fans didn't want him anymore, yet he felt like a rarity in a center depleted league who could still contribute to a contender.

Even Clyde finished his career in Cleveland.

Sometimes it's just time to go and don't look back.

Any arguments on Ewing being the best Knick in the last 20 years?

I said patrick was a better athlete. A harder worker.

Pat was 100 times the player Eddy can ever be.

So you think Eddy has less natural talent? Eddy has soft hands and a (natural) quickness that Patrick never had.

Explain why you think this is stupid?

Ultimately, it was the Knicks' fault. They had the power to say no.

I agree with Nalod. Patrick had the soft hands and the deft shooting touch, but he was slow and plodding. He became great because of his work ethic and his desire to be great.

Eddy is natural very quick and light on his feet in spite of his size. Plus he has good soft hands which ought to help him develop a solid jumper out to 12-15 feet. He isn't a hard worker and he puts up 16 points a game. He has 1 move. Eddy is naturally gifted, if he worked as hard as Pat, he'd be the best center in the league. Better than Patrick was in his prime.
