Commercial Appeal - Pau Gasol will require surgery for the partial fracture in his left foot that occurred during Friday's semifinals and he is expected to miss up to three months.

Gasol's injury was confirmed in a statement released by the Spanish Basketball Federation.

"The player is not supporting any weight on the injured foot. The national team's medical services has submitted to his club (Memphis) a medical report, as well as the exam results, so they can evaluate the therapeutic steps to be taken," the release said.

As we all know we play the Grizz first game of the season and Gasol will most likely be out. This is huge if we can somehow steal that first game.

what a litmus test that will be. I can imagine the public blacklash if the knicks lose anyway.

I hope we don't have to depend on other star players getting hurt to win games, but it is good to know that we should have an advantage for that first game. We need to start the year off right if we hope to get to 40-45 wins.

Yes a quick start for us is imperative. Probably the most important thing to happen to the franchise since Ewing was traded(exaggeration, but you get the point). It is very important.

This is how low we've gotten? Using a borderline playoff team in the first game of the season without it's star as a "litmus test"?

Why don't we just play the LA Sparks? That may at least give us some optimism about how we'll perform against a full team.

I don't know if we could but, I may reconsider because I would hate losing to a WNBA team. Maybe the Liberty from this year-but they have a definate advantage in heart.

Let me get this straight. Ooh ahh says 35-39 wins. Bippity says 34-38. Ooh ahh is an optimist, I'm a pessimist. Weirdest board ever!
It probably has something to do with the interpretation you give of that win total, not the actual projected win total.

Not once have I ever come here and said the Knicks will suck next year. Not once have I come on here and said the Knicks will be great next year. Or that the Knicks are doomed or definitely going to be great one day. I predicted that the Knicks would win 34-38 this year and that's pretty much in line with what everyone says. But when I ask "is it right to be satisfied when a 50 win team is expected to win 34-38" I am villianized for asking a legitimate question.

I am honest about who we are. Only the players can change that. We are a team with tons of talent but no results as of yet. When I see results I will do what I always do. Comment on what the Knicks are doing at that particular state in time. That's why I am a commentator and not a predictor.

The Seattle Seahawks have 12 win talent. If everyone was predicting that the 12 win talent was going to win 7-9 games and then those fans called themselves "optimists" I would find that just as strange as I find this situation.
