AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Tiger Woods said he would like to see testing on the PGA Tour for performance-enhancing drugs as soon as possible to make sure golf remains clean.
"I don't know when we could get that implemented," Woods said. "Tomorrow would be fine with me."

Woods did not say he thought anyone was using steroids, but said it could be a problem in the future.

"I think we should be proactive instead of reactive," he said. "I just think we should be ahead of it and keep our sport as pure as can be. This is a great sport, and it's always been clean."

Woods' comments came one day after PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said he saw no need for drug testing in golf without evidence that any players are using steroids.

Woods compared the situation to the PGA Tour testing thin-faced drivers that exceeded regulations for the trampoline effect, known as the coefficient of restitution (COR). He suggested in 2003 that some players were using hot drivers. By the following year, tour officials had a tool that measured COR, although drivers were not tested unless another player asked.

"Just like the driver situation, we were reactive there instead of proactive," Woods said.MONTEGO BAY - Highly recruited United States high school basketball player Samardo Samuels will headline a line-up of 'All Stars' who will parade their skills at this evening's All Stars match at the Montego Bay Cricket Club that will signal the end of the Western Basketball Association's season. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Samuels, the 6' 8", 240lbs forward who attended Muschett High before moving to high school in the US three years ago, is described as a "big time prospect" and highly recruited by several top US colleges.

He was an all-star at Nike Camp as a freshman and has been described by basketball writers as a "young Eddy Curry" and has been tagged as one who could be "special".

Curry is a 22-year-old, four-year National Basketball Association 'veteran', drafted by the Chicago Bulls but was acquired by the New York Knicks at the start of last season and is highly rated.

Samuels will represent an 'invitational' squad dubbed the Star Ballaz Invitational and will include other local talents from in and around Western Jamaica.

They will take on a Western All Stars team that will comprise players such as Oneil Clarke, Robert Spence, Andrae Morgan, Kareem Hibbert, Rayon Bolt, Adolph Erskine, Michael Holness and Goyan Malcolm.

At half-time, fans will be treated to a sizzling three-point shoot-out and high-flying gravity defying dunk-off, plus fans will be offered the chance to win cash if they make a shot from half-court.

The event has been sponsored by the Western Basketball All-Stars in collaboration with Lucozade Sport, Cool Runnings Spring Water, Realtech, Computer Jamaica and Cornwall Medical & Dental Supplies.
