The Knicks need to change everything from ownership to all the way down to the coaches. Layden has proven time and again that he has no concept of money as he has over paid mediocre or below level talent top dollars. Ownership hasn't a clue about basketball. Chaney is in over his head with the team and playing Dice 38 minutes in preseason is just plain stupid. Has he ever seen an NFL preseason game where the starters play only first quarter and they are out. Hind sight is 20/20 but he knew Dice was coming off an injury plagued season. He has proven to be an inept coach who can't get it done in the fourth quarter. Whether he is following mangements orders to tank or what have you. He no way deserved an extension of the contract.
New Ownership possibly a billionair who treats the team like a toy which he loves. Would be ideal.
New Management which has a clue about cap spending and has an eye for talent. Which Layden hasn't a clue about.
New Coach who has played in a system which was successful and produced championships. Played great defense and preaches defense. Michael Cooper would be the right man for the KNicks. Played under a great coach who once coached the Knicks promotes defense like JVG and Riley and he would bring showtime back to the garden which Pat Riley once did, just as his teammate has done with the Nets.
If the Knicks could do this then the fans will feel that thing are moving in a positive direction. If this whole thing stays the same then I don't think the fans will feel this team is going in the right direction. Even if they change two out of three thing like management and coaches the fans would feel the team is going in a positive direction.

Obviously big changes need to be made, and the biggest problem is these things will all take time. We are looking at a few years of mediocrity in order to build something stable - and maybe even more then a few years if we plan on building a championship caliber team.
