For years the way out of the east for the knicks was not just Boston, but really was the Baltimore Bullets.

Great write up on those days.......

ITs been mentioned here a few times over the years. Some of the young guys need to catch up on this history.

These were the good old days for some of us. I picked on the NBA in 1971. I missed the first championship, but those 4 years of playoffs were always about the Bullets!

Funny, we hated the Celtics but respected the Bullets in our family and also my friends.

They were very similar to the knicks in how they were built. Gene Shue was a good coach.

Remember back then there were not so many teams and they played each other alot during the season!

The bullets eventually made some good trades getting Elvin Hayes and eventually won the ring after a few trip to the finals.

We rooted for them once the knicks were done.

I came a little later when Mitch Kupchak(25) on one leg and Bobby Dandridge(10) just killed us anytime we played....Wes Unseld was good and so was Elvin Hayes but those guys just seemed to have monster games against the Knicks...Love those uniforms back then too...

Thanks Nalod. That brings back memories. Gus Johnson is one of the least appreciated great players in the history of the game. I hate to say it, but Bradley was overrated as an nba player (though he was great in college). The Pearl was a much better player for the Bullets than he was later in his career for the Knicks. His swing moves were a thing of beauty.

Earl was crazy on the bulletts and his first season here was injury prone. He also rounded out his game and perhaps playing with clyde prolonged his career.

Bill was first bought in to play guard but was two slow. When we traded the dissapointing Cazzie Russell ( a college great himself!) he moved into the small forward slot.

The battles with Havlechek, Marin and Riordan were great.

Phil Jackson often matched up against Jack Marin and those were interesting battles. I think the two guys hated each other.
