What was more beautiful than watching Joe Montana hit Jerry Rice, in stride, on a three step drop and a short crossing pattern?

For the Knicks to be a better basketbal team it only requires Marbury to make the correct pass in the correct spot... where the reciever can continue in a flow ... prefereably towards the basket.

Watch how many times has Marbury, unfortunately, only throws the ball in the direction of his intended target? Watch how many times a player must change direction, adjust his body or pause because the pass is slightly OFF target. Does he receives the stare from Marbury for fumbling the ball or not making a clean catch?

That, friends is Marbury's greatest flaw amid his considerable talent. It would only take an adjustmenent of CARING about his teammates to make the pass more effective. Alas, Marbury hates to give up the pill and it shows.

With Isiah Thomas, Walt Frazier and ever Earl freakin' Monroe hanging around.. one would think he could AT LEAST make the pass like he CARED about the assist MORE than his scoring stat line. Heck, why not celebrate the accomplishments of your teammamtes with a high-fives after each of THEIR scores?

If Steph does NOT "get it" this season, I'm fully prepared to jump on the Mardy Collins bandwagon. No discussion. No more interviews. No more Marbury threads. I'm done... and ready to move on with Crawford at the lead guard. There is too much young talent for any one myopic player to hold it back.

Whatever off season epiphany Stephon has experienced, he only needs to play with TEAM seared on his brain. That's all that matters.

Holy crap! Earl, you talkin some sense today! I agree 100%, this has been my major gripe with Marbury. Everyone wants to harp on his 20&8 but the 8assists could be much more than just 8assists per game if he made the CORRECT passes that led straight to baskets or made a pass to a player that can than make a easier pass to a open player. This and leadership have always been Marbury's biggest flaws and I think one is directly related to the other.

Watch Steve Nash or Jason Kidd, 2 of the best passers in the NBA, they lead their teammates straight to the hoop or they make the pass to the player that has an easier chance to get the assist to a teammate on the next pass. This is Marburys problem

Marbury's game resembles nothing of Kidd's or Nash. Marbury has never been good at running 5 man offense. He's a master at creating space because he's powerfull, can take you off the dribble and draws contact attacking the glass. He forces you to address his great scoring abilities. When you do he starts passing to open guys. If you dont he scores on you.

Unfortunatly Francis does the same thing.

Like NASH hits his teammates?

I did see flashes during the "Streak" last year when he hit Eddy in stride and he just killed it!

What you seek is not Marburys game. What you seek is a true point guard who "feels" his teammates and creates a flow, a rhythem, a ballet!

Its a beautiful thing you talk about.

Its a reason I watch PHX games where I never used to even glance. Same for Kidd and the Nets. I like watching good ball movement.

Hate?, naw, I a Baskeball fan and like to see good hoop. Not just a knick homer. I wish I could say the same for our team, but not yet.

Was there a game last night that I missed....Who on the Knicks was cutting to the lane that he missed....How many dead on passes did Q1 miss last year? Marbs took 14 shots a game...Where did it show he hated to give up the ball? what am I missing??...Seems like Marion did ok receiveing passes from Marbury, he was an all-star...

Did we miss the many passes to David Lee en route to the basket...Was it not Curry who complained that he wasn't getting the ball where he wanted it when Marbs went down...Did David Lee's offensive production drop when Marbs went down...Did not eveyone noticed that the flow of the offense take a dramatic hit when Marbs was out of the line-up...Lets be fair here...

fish.mike - the mere mention of Eric Snow makes my skin crawl. Just think of Mardy Collins as a 6'6 Chollie Ward without the football helmet and the extra Bible.

Fish is right on- Marbury is skilled at many things, but he is not a great passer per se.

He doesn't have to be for this team to win.

I was happy when Marbury got here because it meant for the first time in a while we had a PG who could hit a lay up.

Charlie was gutsy, and developed a strong 3, but I could have died watching him blow lay ups repeatedly.

Here's the REAL deal, if you think there was mutiny against Larry Brown last season... wtach what happens the first time Frye, Jeffries and Lee have a heart-to-heart in the back of the team jet on the way back from the first West Coast swing.

Jeffries: "Chan, wasup with yo' boy?"

Frye: "D Lee, oh ...he ALWAYS sleeps on these trips..."

Jeff: "no dude, Steph... he missed you three times when you were wide open... "

Frye: "I was more concerened about Eddy punching Bynum in the face"

Jeff: "yeah it was good to get our first rumble in..."

Lee: (snoring)

I understand the comments and agree that Marbury can improve as a passer. However, I agree somewhat with Holfresh. For all his faults and his beef with LB, Marbury was clearly the ONLY player on this team that could run the half-court offense from the point and get the ball to our low-post scorers with any type of consistency. Watching Crawford and Nate try to run the point last year was brutal. Is he Jason Kidd or Nash? Of course not. But he is a competent point guard with great scoring ability. I think IT's direct involvement with the team will help him in the area everyone notes (more accurate passes). Marbury can lead this team to the playoffs, and I think this is the year that it happens.

While I'll be the first to admit that Marbs passing skills is in no way comparable to Kidd's or Nash's...Those guy did excel in a running offense...PG's are going to look better when you run and gun, but maybe that just me....

Earl, with all due respect...2 out of 3 guys in your skit averages 6 points or less per game...What cred does thse guys have as NBA ballers...

nyk4ever - if there was ever a crossroads for Marbury, this season is it. Not only for being granted unconditional support from Isiah Thomas, but for the gradual shift in balance and INFLUENCE of the Knicks roster from those 'over 28' to those 'under 26' years old.

You need both yoots and experience... but the scales, especially in the frontcourt, tip solidly in favor of new foundation of Frye, Curry, Jeffries and my man David Lee.

The backcourt chorus line has the responsibility to do what it takes to lead, initiate the offense and make it all work smoothly.

There is not a moment available for a single individual agenda on a team with such talent up front. The Knicks will only cohere and improve as they stay together for, minimally, the next 3-4 years.

I don't care who the guards are, just so long as they play like they care about the other three men on the floor.

Besides, a great man once said (I think it was Dick Barnett) "ask NOT what the scoring stat sheet can do for you, ask what crisp ball movement can do for the assist column."

I never saw a quote like that from Marion...But I think with Marbs, Marion made it to his first allstar game...to that point, it was his best offensive season...In 2002-03, it was the most shots he took per game in his career...
