Jeffries no savior for Isiah
By Tom Knott
August 14, 2006

The desperation of Isiah Thomas is more pronounced than ever.
You could tell by his moment with Jared Jeffries last week.
Thomas proclaimed Jeffries to be the elixir that would resolve the rag-tag dimension of the Knicks.
"What Jared brings to us more so than talent, he brings chemistry," Thomas said.
Jeffries also brings an unsettling number of rim-busting layup attempts.
This proclivity is not helpful to team chemistry or to a team's points on the scoreboard.
Thomas was peddling a feel-good fantasy -- with Jeffries cast as Superman Lite -- because that is all he has left with his wreck of a franchise.
The next transaction in Manhattan that encourages talk of an upgrade will be the one detailing his departure.
MSG chairman James Dolan has granted Thomas a season to show progress, but that is being overly sanguine.
Thomas is where Stan Van Gundy was at this time last year, probably one protracted losing streak away from his next venture, most likely in a talking head capacity

FORGET THE MONEY!!! That shouldn't even be an issue. What matters most is whether Jeffries will help this team to win this year. I find it comical that Isiah was BLASTED for not going after team players and role players and now since he already had Star type players and he decides to add the very kinds of players that he's been bashed for not getting he STILL gets bashed. Is there ANY move that he can make that would be approved by the media?

I think Isiah was already on the right track last year and that this year he'll be vindicated. Its not like we don't have talent equal to most of the other teams in the league, cuz we do. Its simply a matter of coaching and jelling now. It may be a bumpy ride, but I do expect that this year will be a successful one. I mean what is there not to like about the moves Isiah is making? We needed more defense and he went and got some help in that regard. I don't think this team is as lacking in players who can play D as much as we were just not in synch last year. How can ANY TEAM function as a defensive unit when there is no set unit? We have some defenders and now we have more than last year. I see NO REASON to be down on what Isiah has done. This teams got a LOT of room for growth and at the same time we have some players who are ready RIGHT NOW to help this team win. To me all those who are being so pessimistic about this teams chances this year just aren't paying attention to the REALITY of what's happening with this team NOW. Stop living in the past!!! The media has no clue what this team can really do and even we were robbed of a chance to get a handle on this team last year. From my observations we don't have any scrubs. These guys are all players and we just need to give them clear direction and a chance to jell as a unit. Jeffries doesn't have to be a savior, just a good team player.

Unfortunately this team will never ever have fiscal responsibility with Cablevision running it. The next best thing is to at least get players who are good and can play well together and aren't paid absurd salaries (I'm talking about quadruple what the next team would pay like Jerome James).

Nalod - you so crazy

It ain't your money

the way some of you are concerened with the salary cap it would seem you would be much happier pulling for the Atlanta Hawks.. they are under the cap... have been for two years.

LOL. The kool-aid drinkers are funny. Point out something logical, like I don't know... it's excessive paying $12 million a year for a role player and they flip out.

Fact remains, most people like the move DESPITE the IMMENSE price tag for a ROLE PLAYER. Yes, it will be mentioned, because people who can see past the kool-aid know it is and will be an issue, whether the kool-aid drinkers wish to acknowledge it or not.

I, for one, am very hopeful that JJ2 is a big piece to us turning the ship around, but again, we paid high to get that... so it BETTER work out.

Overall, most people like the positives JJ2 brings vs. the immense amount he costs us. However, it is fair to point out both the negatives along with the positives. Get over yourselves, guys.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I didn't say I was against it, I just said it boggles the mind! The disrespect for money of this organization is collossal!

With morons running the place as they do, its no wonder we suck!

Imagine if they had half a brain, just half mind you and were succesful, how much all that damm money could do!

This is a good pick up, but im no homer to just eat all the crap they throw around at us.

Jeffries is the type of player we need.

But we got a payroll that will always garner attention.

the disrespect for Money isn't JJ2.

Its trading Penny for Francis. Its S&T for Curry @ his money $8-10mm.

Those moves are bad, money wise.

What is Francis and Marbury costing us if you factor in tax? $40mm-$60mm???

JJ2 is a bargain.

Just to play devil's advocate: Explain what the issue is. In other words, what are the negative consequences of Jeffries receiving $5 mil rather than $3 mil per season?

nothing wrong with throwing the brother some cash, but with a payroll at 125 mil that does not include a role player of that caliber is pretty silly. And you just drafted one.

AND that a trade for such a player was not doable. The fact that our roster is constructed that you can't make a trade for a player of his caliber is kinda weird.

As I said, it appears on paper to be a piece, just seems like we should have either promoted within by now (developed) or had the assets to trade.

Isiah is not even thinking this season, he thinking about making it to December!

Money, I don't give a rats ass about Dolans MIllions and how he blows it!

HIs immense PRICE TAG??? LOL.

YOu guys talking about kool-aid this and that, should called soda drinkers or cola drinkers.......... everything is black.LOL
If JJ-2 didn't earn a four million a year deal from washington he woun't have costed five. Don't care either way for the signing but it is IMMENSELY BAD or GOOD.

Martin - with all due respect, don'r be a putz

Jeffries averaged about 6 shots a game last season. SIX.

He attempted more than 10 shots only 8 times the entire year.

Let's see if the man fits before you start worrying about his paycheck, or the luxury tax that Dolan can pay in his sleep, as the prime directive

Any idiot can see that Jeffries is what he is.

Anyone who labels him a "savior" is only looking for a label to make his fall to dissappointment that much higher

Jeffries is no more a (cough) "savior" than Renaldo Balkman

Savior my butt...

play ball.

Then you're problem is with the makeup of the roster and payroll (and I suspect we agree on those issues), not with the fact that Jeffries is getting $5 mil rather than $3 mil.

Well Jeffries is no savior but this article is kinda over the top. I guess there isn't alot of NBA news and you gotta make something outta nothing bu still. Thomas makes one positive quote and it's like he's placing all of the hope on Jeffries.

Yeah, Jeffries is slightly overpaid but his salary has nothing to do with the team's problems and anyone who calls an MLE contract for a useful player an "immense" price tag is being an extremist.
