the question is would Philly do it.
I think they are trying to sell the team so switching Q for Weber in 2007/2008 (Rose and Taylor would be off the books) would be a switch of $8M for $22M difference, and considering the salary cap, that's $28 difference in committed salary. HUGE.
So yes, Philly has some interest in this. I have to believe Collins would be apart of the deal, being a Philly school-born guy and all.
the overall dollars over the longterm are a wash, however u must factor in the fact that in 08/09 & 09/10, when CWebb's contract would no longer be on the books, Q Rich would be taking up a combined $18 mil in salary & another $18 mil in potential luxury tax payments... w/o making this deal Philly can be under the cap in '09 enough to target a bigname FA... coincidentally this is the same year that guys like Lebron & Wade are scheduled to hit the open market... i don't believe Philly would make this type of trade for a guy who won't help them win any games right now & who's contract will prevent them from reaching roster flexibility for the longterm... there's no reason for Philly to make a trade of this kind unless we were to toss in some picks or young talent to make it worth their while imho.
a trade of Jalen & Malik to Philly for CWebb & a 1st round pick has alot better chance of appealing to them in my view.
here's the thing though... if you are tying to sell THIS year or this next summer, all you have to do is be under the cap immediately, and with a Q/Webber switch it would happen. Philly is also trying to move AI and maybe even Samual, who are even more easily moveable.
What's the cap this year? $55M? In 2008-9? $60M? Not unreasonable, so the luxary tax line is a bit different from what you had mentioned.
I am thinking they are asking for DLee with the deal in addition to Collins but Isiah has got to hold the line cause NO other team can make this trade but NY.
