I think so. Think Lee will prove to be the better player. Curry too. Think Frye will be wind up as a solid pro, borderline starter/6th man -- not someone you build a team around.

Frye can shoot, for sure, and he's not a bad passer, and he proved last season that he's not soft.

My problem w/ him is he's only an adequate defender and rebounder and doesn't seem to get enough high percentage shots. First half of last season he was making the tough shots, second half -- not so much. If he can fine tune his post game, maybe he can get himself better looks. W/ his shooting eye, and w/ the number of dunks and gimmes he should get, he should shoot at > 50%.

Thoughts?

Look up Joneals, Bosh, RWallace and tell me if they shoot 50 percent. Any Powerforward that can shoot jumpshots only shoots around 45%.

Frye is without any doubt the better player when it comes to him verus Lee.

I dont think Frye is overrated in terms of talent - and he is def better then Lee. I think his hype is a little outside the realm of reality though. NY has been so hungry for a big man to fill the shoes Ewing left that I think the media and the fans get overly excited about Frye because he has show flashes of talent. I love having him on the team though and the kid has a bright future.

I see him becoming our version of SAR, which is pretty nice (although he's basically a jumpshooting 4/5). A lot of non-ny fans think highly of frye as well, so it might not be just us delirious homers.

How is he overrated? Who is rating him high? He had an injury cut rook year, but he showed promise. He showed he can shoot, and score in general.

He showed he needs to bulk up, and work on his lateral movement, and defense in general. Things a bigman can def work on.

Lee is a question mark in my mind. He has not real position right now. Too small for PF, too slow for SF. Either way I don't see him ever being anything more than a role player, while Frye can be a 3rd, tops 2nd scoring option on a team.

He's pretty damn good in the post, too. His only problem last year was sporadic playing time.

interesting posts this evening.

last year, he was used like a clown by MB, this year, he will be hitting jumpers and then "throwing it down" when they come in his face.

he under rated.

It was his rookie year and it was just a taste of what he can do. Don't think bernard wrote him off just maybe extrapolated a little from what he did see.

Remind me again why LB was a coach who didn't like young players?

No one is writing him off, just level setting perhaps.

How is Lee too small to be a PF?! He's 6'9" and will fill out nicely. He will be a good PF. Take that to the bank.

How is Lee too small to be a PF?! He's 6'9" and will fill out nicely. He will be a good PF. Take that to the bank.

I think Lee himself has said that when he gains weight he loses speed/quickness and with that the rebounding ability.

Yeah man, his hook is money. I don't like that Frye is non-physical, or just not overpowering on offense (can't back people down, so pivots a couple times and shoots a hook). I remember he was matched up against Granger (SF) during one game and wasn't strong enough to back him down, so just kept dribbling two or three times and then passing out of the post (no double team). Channing can certainly dunk, however, and should get plenty of transition and pick-n-roll opportunities with both Steph and Stevie here. He can also shoot, and will likely improve his game once players start crowding him and he has to expand his repertoire.

Bernard, I agree with you. I like Frye but the only thing he does on the court at this time is shoot the ball. Last year he did not show me he can rebound against other players his size and he also showed me he can't defend them either. I don't care if he can shoot 50% if he doesn't develop on the defensive end of the court where the Knicks need him most. It's nice that Frye can shoot the ball but until he develops a back-to-basket game and develeops defensively he's just another shooter on the court and right now the Knicks need more than that.

Here's my Take

I believe Frye will around a 18pts 7reb a game type player throughout his career.
That's not saying he can't be a 20/8 type player for a year or 2. I don't think he'll get to a 24/10 player. But it is possible. Here is my concern:
Curry and Frye together up front! One of them needs to be a double digit rebounder, play tough D, and block shots! I am not sure if either one has that in them! If they don't we have to package one of them for somebody who brings all that. I definately would give them some time to develop though. Frye is a good kid and seems to be willing to work on whatever part of his game he needs to.

As for David Lee I see him being a very good 6th or 7th man throughout his career. He is the type of player that every team needs at least one! He can be a 12pt 7reb player in 28min/game. Along with making a few hustle plays.

I like both Lee and Frye. I think Frye has more upside and is better than Lee right now. This kid can score at a 18-20 points per game level right now if given minutes and will shoot at a decent percentage. Plus he makes his free throws. If you watched SL play, Frye added some weight and seemed more determined to postup players. He still has to get stronger if he is going to survive in the post (Amare destroyed him) but he knows that. That is what I really like about Lee and Frye. They both know they have weaknesses to their game and they both seem focused on improving their game. I think Frye will ultimately become a decent defender, a good shot-blocker, a decent rebounder, a good passer out of the post, and an above-average scorer and free-throw shooter. He is not going to be the next Ewing but he will be a solid starting PF that will hold down the position for us for the next 8 years. Lee is probably going to always be a slightly better rebounder, but Lee won't block shots and will not be able to score like Frye can. Together they give us two solid PFs to build the team around. Plus, I think this is the year Curry finally starts to get it and takes his game up another level. Really if this guy just learns three things: (1) how to pass out of the post and re-post, (2) how to cut down on the offense fouls; and (3) how to box out and rebound on a consistent basis, he would be a top-5 center in this league, he has that much offensive talent.

I could conceivably understand how someone would think that frye will be worse than lee. but I dont see any logical reason to assume that curry will be better than frye. anyway I beleive that frye will be better than all three. but thats just my two cents.

Thanks, Martin. That's exactly right. I'm not writing Frye off. Said I think he'll be borderline starter/6th man. Concern is that I get the sense that a lot of Knick fans see him as a front-of-the-rotation type guy -- someone who will be our best or 2nd best player. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see him developing into that.
