I was a big Houston fan but his number isnt being retired (and it shouldnt) so I dont really see a big deal in JJ2 wearing his number. Curry wears Oakleys number and Marbury wears Starks'. If they can wear those numbers than JJ should definitely be able to wear 20

I hated houstons game. Aside from the 1999 run he did nothing.

Anyway you look at it love him or hate him he still doesn't deserve to be immortalized at msg. If he does I will organize a boycott and get oak and starks up there

Houston was one of the better shooting guards in the league for a long time. Even towards the end he was still incredible. Remember his 53 against Kobe in LA? If Spree had ever done that, they would've built a statue for him. Houston wasn't flashy and got a lot of crap for his contract, but he was very good.

Gimme a fuking break! Best shooting guards in the league? The dude wasn't even the best in the East!! Let it go man, the dude was 1-dimensional.

Does it matter? Latrell, who was playing our of position had a better game. Houston could hit a jumpshot though. Maybe it is worth retiring his number cause he did that! Maybe we should do that for Marbury who can also rack up stats.

You beat me to it. I think the knicks sucked that year Houston got 53. Up until that year I was begging for him to play up to his potential. Yeah Houston was good be he never showed it when it really counted except for 1999 in the playoffs.

Sprewell already burned his bridge with ny. He was a hell of a player. That's about it. If they didn't resign Houston and went with spree to begin with things would have been way better for the knicks.

Exactly! The guy had the passion and a better all around game. Houston was a nicer guy which is why the a*shole Dolan signed him over Sprewell.

If we had kept Spree and Camby... we were set at the 2 and 5...
Making Spree play out of position to suit Houston's game was a mistake.
Spree was the man when he was here.

Houston shouldn't have his number retired. Had he helped us win a championship, then I'd say maybe he should, but that wasn't and certainly isn't the case.

With that said, he was still a very good player and we are lucky we had the opportunity to run him into the ground with his knees.

And crzymdups never said he was the best shooting guard. He said he was one of the better shooting guards. I have to agree with that. No, he's not with the T Macs and the Kobes and Pierces and Iverson's in the world, but he's a couple levels below. Not bad.

And for the record, Houston was a more efficient scorer than Spree. While Spree was always more aggresive at taking it to the rack, Houston still scored at a higher percentage and was always the first man the Knicks looked to.

ANd in terms of Spree playing out of position, that is true, but H20 and Spree switched and Houston would take the 3s. So it's not like he was always the small foward.

Both players were equally important to the Knicks success before they started sucking.
