with this signing they said if they resign jefferies they will be over the luxury tax threshold
maybe thispaves the way for jefferies to be a KNick

I'm glad we got him. It's going to be tough to justify the fact that he's costing the Knicks $12 MM a year, but overall, he's definitely a player who has the potential to help the team.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

When is the last time a MLE player was useful for the Knicks ??? Jerome James, Clarence Weatherspoon, and the list goes on and on... I tend not to be optimistic about that signing.

Was Kurt an MLE signing? That would actually qualify as a good MLE signing.
I don't think the MLE has been around that long.

it was available as of the last strike, Kurt signed with us right before the 99 season, right after the last strike.

yeah, as we've been saying in the Jared Jefferies trade - this probably means Jefferies is ours, since with Stevenson's deal and Jefferies deal, Washington would hit luxury taxville.

I like the Jefferies signing - and we're not overpaying for him, Washington offered him 6yrs $33million, a richer deal overall and only a half a million more dollars per season. He fits in well, he's young, he can defend, run the floor, handle the rock, pass, rebound and play/defend multiple positions.

Marbury/Crawford
Francis/Nate
Jefferies/Balkman/QRich
Frye/Lee/Jefferies
Curry/Frye/Jerome

that's a heck of a team if the talent clicks. I'd still look to ditch Francis and start Qrich or Crawford at SG, but I like the versatility of the team. also, other than Francis and Marbury, our entire core is 26yrs or younger, we have 8 very good guys who are between 22-26. I like it.

good signing now that i think about it, jefferies will help this team severly on the perimeter d department

Free agent DeShawn Stevenson agreed to terms with the Washington Wizards on Thursday, his agent, Mark Bartelstein told ESPN.com.

Shooting Guard
Orlando Magic

Profile
2006 SEASON STATISTICS
GM PPG RPG APG FG% FT%
82 11.0 2.9 2.0 .460 .744

According to Bartelstein, Stevenson agreed to a two-year contract worth the NBA minimum salary. Since he has six-plus years of service, that would be $932,015 for the first year. Stevenson has a player option in the second year of the contract.

The deal is a pretty big blow to Stevenson financially. He opted out of a contract this spring that would have paid him $3 million and then turned down a three-year, $10 million contract from the Magic in early July.

Stevenson then changed agents and agreed to the deal with the Wizards.

"There just isn't much money left out there," Bartelstein said. "This gives DeShawn an excellent opportunity to play significant minutes on a very good team. I think by next summer, the rest of the league will see his real value and he'll earn back the money he lost."

The next big step for the Wizards will be deciding whether to match the Knicks' offer sheet to restricted free agent Jared Jeffries.

The Knicks made Jeffries a five-year, $30 million offer that the Wizards have until Monday to match. Several sources familiar with the Wizards' thinking believe that they are leaning against matching the offer due to luxury tax concerns. Matching the Knicks offer would put the Wizards over the luxury tax threshold.

The problem with this lineup is Francis. Keeping him happy is going to be difficult. The problem is he doesn't fit at all. Nate and Craw will earn playing time. Q-rich plays D and plays hard.. that will get him some time at SF. Jeffries fits this lineup really well. Balkman won't play except in practice. Moving Francis is going to be real important in the upcoming season.

I agree. If we can get rid of Francis for someone/anyone, we can start Q-Rich at SG and play crawford as sixth man. Nate can get his minutes backing up Marbury. Jeffries and Rose or Balkman can play SF. Frye and Lee and split the PF positions, with Frye getting some backup center minutes. JJ would get spot minutes at center. The team would finally have some balance and there would be enough minutes to keep the major players on the team happy. I wish there was a team with cap room that might want Francis, but the only one out there (the bobcats) has no interest in him.
