"****ing Jews" and "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" and asking the arresting deputy "Are you a Jew?" -- during his DUI arrest early Friday morning.
Does anyone buy/accept his apology?

Heres my feelings. His apology seems well thought out, and if he doesn't mean it, at least he has taken enough time to make it appear sincere, even asking for a meeting with Jewish leaders, etc.

However, how do you let those kinds of words roll out of your mouth in the first place? Drunk or not, for you to say something like that, means that on some level you believe it, or you've heard it enough times that you give it credibility.

What a specific thing to say.

For instance, a racist remark that seems true to the untrained eye, but in actuality is racist nonsemse like:

The mexicans are getting all of our tax dollars, and Affrimative action is giving the blacks all the jobs and college placements while I have to bust my ass doing x,y,z.

While those comments are racist, they also could represent someone's legitimate view of the world, however untrue it is. A person who says this is just someone who is ignorant, doens't know how programs like AA work, and who they primarily help (white women) and doesn't understand that far more tax dollars are wasted in things like the war on Iraq than on Illegal immigrant social services. Me being a sociologist, I can easily debunk these myths, but some redneck who is frustrated with his life, who watces Fox news, probably doesn't have the information, or critical thinking tools to elevate above that worldview.

However, how could you say someting like Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world? How could that even be possible? Mel Gibson is no redneck with limited access to information, and he couldn't possibly think Jews are responsible for all of the worlds wars.

He's clearly a racist, and no apology, regardles of how sincere it sounded would make me forget that.

Funny thing to me is that Gibson has been working in Hollywood, which has a huge Jewish influence, for all these years and he has been a golden boy.

Another funny thing is the deal he lost was a mini-series on the holocaust.

I think it is possible to let fly with a whole bunch of racist nonsense without truly believing it if your goal is to hurt a particular person. I don't think this is the case with Gibson, he was randomnly ranting like he might if he were at home. Maybe passion of the Christ was anti-semitic? I'll never know because I will never watch it.

Mel gibson is crazy and shouldent have said that in that way but the isrial is really going crazy and overboard right now and they have before... America is no better but isrial is causing a tun of problems and you can't deny that I don't care if u are jewish don't take offense to it its not YOU doing it but realise that your countries govmnt is ****ed.. Im american and our govmnt is ****ed I own it and I don't get offended when people state that it is.

Arab groups that swear to kill Jews will not endear themselves that way. In my mind, Israel is justified to some extent in not being "nice" to an enemy who wants to kill you.

Jews in Nazi Germany did nothing to threaten them. Nazis gained power during a depression and looked for a scapegoat. Also by taking the wealth of the Jews they helped themselves.

Big difference. Are we to say that the lebonese civilians are victims of Israel, or Hezbelloah?

Mel Gibson is a fundamentalist. Not many Catholic fundamentalists, but the dude is a bit out there. I liked Mel Gibson the actor and enjoyed his movies. NEver saw the passion and never will. But thats my preference and don't preach against it. He made a ton of money by capitalizing on followers emotional ties to Jesus and making it visual. Ok, its a free market. Actually it was a brilliant cash flow generater!

I really don't care what people think, but a public figure like him spouting off like that was stupid and he will pay.

The whole holocaust mini series I think he did to offset his fathers remarks during the realease of the passion movie that the holocaust was "fiction". I guess Mel thought he better treat that one well to also dispell rumors of his antiesemitic views.

Given this recent verbal outburst of stupidity, why was this guy making a Miniseries about the holocauset?

Looks like Mels Passion is money, not much else.

I wonder who his public relations department is. Maybe its Charlie Ward and H20.

This is what's wrong with the world, there is no justification for escalation of violence which encompasses others. That's like saying if a man shoots my child and runs hide in the home of another person who is seemingly to weak to rid themselves of the fugitive. How am I both socially and morally justified to blow up the house of the innocent party to extract vengenance on the guilty party.
