I am really warming up to the Jared Jeffries prospect.

The team has a lot of redundant talent, but one way to look at that is insurance.

It also tells me that IT is going to try to put together a blockbuster trade using the expiring contracts of Rose, Taylor, or both (No way are those guys getting waived!!!), packaged with some redundant talent.

I'm thinking Ray Allen.

You heard it here first.

good thinking oohah! it really puzzles me how people rather waive a player in the last year of his contract before the season starts when you can wait til the deadline and see whats out there.

I would hate to lose NR but it would be worth it.

Nice work Joe.

It seems hard to guage whether the Wiz will match the Knicks offer, and there are conflicting reports out about the prospects. I just don't think that a team like the Wiz, who also have weak defenders, would want to loose Jeffries when they already offered him more money (is that not the case?) and the current deal does not put them over the cap (aka forced to pay the luxary tax).

I did read that article in yesterday's Daily News that the contract may be set up to scare the Wiz away, by forcing the team to pay 80% of this season's salary up front, etc. The problem with that argument seems to me to be that I highly doubt that the Wiz don't have access to enough capital to cover that.

My hope is that they don't match, but any hopes that the Wiz won't do so because Jared wants to "move on" seems like wishful thinking and mostly just spin.

They offered him a 6 year/33mm$deal which he turned down. It's a little more money, yet it's actually a tad more cap-friendly in year 1. I don't believe the Knicks offer to put some year one money upfront has any significant value in terms of whether or not they intend to resign JJ. I think the factors are

A. Now that they have seen 6-11 Andrey Blatche improve his play significantly this summer at 19[this is AFTER the contract offer] do they want to put that long-term commitment into Jared, leaving them less flexibilty to deal with upcoming financial issues like Jamison, Arenas and stunting the growth of a more talented player in Blatche?

B. Etan Thomas-- history gives us lessons. They matched for Etan Thomas and now have a albatross of a contract on their hand. Can they somehow swap Etan's contract for a player that may fit JJ position just as well or better for the same $$$[maybe darius miles?]--do they want history to repeat itself with matching and put themselves in poor financial flexibilty? Obviously they have valued him $wise like we have. It is STILL a questionable contract for a player with his output who has also gone through troubling knee injury.

C.Will losing JJ have a material effect on W-L for the Wizards? I think all of these factors will be weighed in.
My guess is at the end of the day they will go back and forth on it and let him go. But it's no slam dunk. I'd put the odds at 70-30 we get him.

Is there any chance that this straight-on RFA offer can be negotiated into a sign-and-trade? Regardless of whether they want or need Jeffries, the Wizards hold the cards and shouldn't have to lose a player for nothing.

Going by this logic, I wonder why the Knicks didn't try to squeeze a 2nd round pick or something out of San Antonio w/ Butler.

Lately Oohah, you and I are thinking alot alike. I would love a trade for Ray, I have a feeling he's tired of whats going on in Seattle and the Knicks have the guys to make the deal happen. Man, Ray would REALLY give us a great starting lineup and a legit star to play with Stephon. He would make this team SO much better with his shooting and scoring ability.

JJ and Isiah have had a long personal relationship. It may just be Isiah getting as many pro-Isiah guys in his clubhouse as possible. People here really feel good about the prospect of an Isiah engineered blockbuster?
