Its said that the plan on defense is every man is going to have to carry his own weight. While I don't believe that this team will be a good defensive team so don't jump to conclusions. I think that this is an excellent plan with these current players.

So many times have we seen the guy helping out the other end up having his man score on him. Mostly because the players used the fact that they were helping another man as an excuse to slack on there man. But having to carry your own weight hopefully will put a stop to that. And if the guy scores on them like 3 times in a row. Then they can't really complain if Isiah takes them out of the game in order to have somone else try and play better defense. And they really don't have an excuse for it if they allow there man to score on them a few times in a row. Or 2 out of 3-4 straight plays down the court. Plus if everyone knows that you have to carry your own weight and yet your man is lighting you up. its embarrassing. And they can't use "we need the bigs to step up or the double team(er) to step up". So either they pick up there focus on defense with there man or they get embarrassed in front of there teammates & coaches and taken out for someone else. So anyone who believes defense is mostly about effort. Hopefully this carry your own weight plan drives it out of them.

Say what you want about Isiah letting Marbury get away with whatever. But remember that Isiah's ass is on the line to. And he will looking out for #1.

I'm deathly afraid of this. I agree with you, this puts the onus directly on the players but what scares me most is that Francis and Marbury have never played too much defense and our bigs downlow are not good defenders or even good help defenders and when Francisbury get blown by on defense, who is going to be there? This COULD be a recipe for disaster.

That was the importance of adding the 2 guys like Collins and Balkman to guard ones and 2s if Franbury couldn't carry there own weight. I know that Marbury will allways have trouble against quicker guards. While he can hold his own against slower yet stronger guards as he could match there strength. I don't know about Francis defense though.

See I dont expect this team to be a strong defensive team. Im just see this plan as a way to get them to play with if nothing else more effort.

What Im expecting us to be is a very strong offensive team. Strong offensive teams with average to below average defense can win in the regular season. Isiah has a very good system that can make them a strong offensive team. They just don't win championships. But for now I can settle for that only if the plan is to gradually keep adding the Balkmans and the Collins while we unload contracts. We just need to start getting back in a position of strenght before we can really build.

I think this is 100% right. While I will not be happy with strong offense and below average defense UNLESS Isiah moves away from his MO, which is going out and getting flashy offensive players, and starts bringing in defensive players I will be fully aboard with his plan. If I see one more flashy player who plays no defense, brought to this team, then I'll know Isiah isn't committed to playing defense. If he's not committed to defense that means he's not committed to winning and when I say winning I mean winning championships, not regular season games.

It's funny how this whole world is based on one dummy controlling another, and the leader dummy was chosen by a whole bunch of dummies.

I think this is a bad idea. didnt brown do the same thing on defense last season? these guys cant defend their man, Isiah would be smart to install a kind of team defense.

Do you really expect these guys to make that much of a defensive impact in the roughly 5 minutes per game they are gonna get?

Dude, in any kind of defense, all the guys have to be able to hold their own at the least. Why is that being underlooked. When Isiah says "Everyone needs to hold their own weight." meant "Everyone needs to step up" Man to man defense is essential. When the Knicks were a good defense team, everyone at least held their own and everyone tried their hardest. Everyone swarmed around, and having Ewing or Camby as shotblockers helped too.
