Actually he said Butler and Elson toghether were a good buy and he put a little more emphasis on Elson.

San Antonio Spurs: Jackie Butler and Francisco Elson. Gregg Popovich had so little faith in Rasho Nesterovic and Nazr Mohammed by the end of last season that neither played in the Spurs' Game 7 loss to Dallas in the West semifinals. They're both gone, having been replaced by the much cheaper – and more agile – Butler and Elson. (Butler signed a three-year, $7 million deal and Elson will make $3 million per over two seasons). Elson, in particular, will be a big factor for San Antonio . He's an active defender and a solid shooter from 17 feet. As for Butler, he showed flashes of brilliance in New York. He's young and athletic and has a chance to be a good player, particularly by learning from Duncan. All told, the Spurs signed two centers who should play quite a bit and got them both for about $5 million this season. Pretty impressive.
I think both are good buys but Elson was the more impressive buy.

Further proof that Isiah has a great eye for talent, but stinks at negotiating.

Flashes of brilliance??? Come on, be serious. Butler is a 6'10" guy with some decent touch who seems willing, but has at best average athletcism. He's not that aggressive a rebounder or shot-blocker.

I wonder what they would be saying if Butler had been signed by the Knicks...

Kerr and any other biased analyst had the Knicks matched:

"Spend, spend, spend....the Knicks do it again, this time they lay out what amounts to 14mm over 3 years for a 3rd string center w/little upside due to his pedestrian athletic ability"

Why does everyone think that analysts are out to get the Knicks? Bill Simmons in my estimation with the only biased opinion towards the Knicks.

Well Steve Kerr might not be Knicks-biased but I'd like to think he's Spurs-biased.

I also like to think it would have been nice not to sign Jerome James, trade for Mo Taylor and let Jackie Butler walk to San Antonio. Maaaaan, that's MoT trade was so bad, Isiah even seemed unsure of himself when he first talked about it. Foo'.

Moochie Norris who's contract expired this Summer I believe and a second rounder for Mo T. The delusioned claimed that the Mo T trade was good b/c the expiring contract will be better than Moochies. Awesome.

Steve Kerr is good friends with Paxson - he's been out to get the Knicks for a while, since the Knicks looking bad = Paxson looking good.

not true at all... last year Kerr might have been the only one to say positive things about the Knicks. He said their size and Larry Brown was a good formula, and that we had a shot to win the Atlantic.

I do love the fact how undrafted Jackie Butler, who only played in about 5 games in the 2004-2005 season and was sparingly used by Brown for the 2005-2006 season now has all this upside. Damn the Knick coaching staff has to be doing something right.
