I think this team will make an improvement from last year (I don't think this team will make the playoffs), but there are also teams that are get better.

What teams in the league do you thnk we are better than?

That's hard to tell. Teams can look good or not so good on paper but until they play a couple of games, you never know. I think with the players on our team, we can beat any team on any given night.
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

Eastern Conference (within of the following categories, I am ranking the teams as they appear):

Locks for playoffs: Cle, NJ, Mia, Chi, Det (but I do think they'll drop off by at least 15 wins, maybe 20)

Likely: Wash, Indi (but, pre-Harrington, I really don't like the makeup of this team)

8th spot possibilities: Milwaukee, Knicks, Atlanta, Boston

GunsnEwing - Agreed, but after the LB experience (yes, I hold him 70% accountable for the team winning 15-20 games less than we should have), I'll sign up for a season that:

-has us in the hunt for a playoff spot
-has 70 games when in the 4th quarter, its not unreasonable that we could win
-is marked by the development of something besides the coaches wallet (i.e. young players)

I think Indiana is going to slide even with Harrington (they will miss Johnson once Tinsley gets hurt again). Milwaukee might slip some without TJ running the point. Atlanta is talented but still very young, as are we. Boston is tough to read, but I don't see that team doing great things this season. I think we potentially could beat all of these teams and get the 8th seed, but it is not going to be easy. The talent in the NBA overall seems to have improved tremendously since the post-Jordan era. There was a slump for a few years after he retired, but now there are several teams with superstar talent and serious chances to go all the way. Hopefully, Isiah is up for the challenge.

Any team in the league can beat anyone and any team can lose to anyone at any given night. But baby, a teams record is not about any given night, it's how you do throughout the season, and when I see 23 wins, I see very few any given nights.

If Curry, Frye, Lee and Marbury are healthy and playing to capabilities, we're fine.

What does "fine" mean? Playoffs? If so, what gives you that impression? Is that really a playoff squad to you? Dopey, Mebury, and a couple of inexperienced youngsters?

Adding Crawford, Francis, Rose, and Q to those players makes a competitive team. Getting into the playoffs however is not going to be easy. It seems like almost every team in the east, except maybe Philly, improved during the offseason. We laugh like the 8th seed is nothing, but if the Knicks get that 8th seed, that would show a lot of improvement in the team in just one year.

AllanFan - I understand that we aren't beating to many people with a record of 23 wins and basically bringing back the same squad - less butler. I was really speaking about one of games - hence the caption - who can we beat. In terms of record wise like who are we going to be better than for the duration of the season - I really see us at the bottom of the pile. Unless this team comes out and gives their all (the opposite of how they played with Larry Brown)I don't see the Knicks making significant progress. It has to be about hustle and commitment because we are bringing back the same team. That won't be determined until they hit the court. We shall see....

we can beat ourselves... I can see 50-60 wins in that department easy.

I would be excited about this team if I thought we were turning the corner and truley commiting to building a system around young players. I have yet to see Isiah assemble anything remotely close to a system or style of play, and we are still built around Mo T, Franbury, Jalen, Jerome James, Malik and QRich just as much as we are around Lee, Frye, Nate, Curry, Balkman, Ariza and Butler. When I see Isiah sitting veterans hes paying $15mm plus a year to sit in favor of mistake prone rookies and sophmores I will believe it. Until then its nothing more than wishfull thinking.
