This guy Salmons can play a little and I like him BUT I take Qyntel Woods over Salmons any day of the week because he's got more natural athletic ability, has got a bigger upside, is slightly taller & a better rebounder, is about 2 years younger, will come cheaper and most importantly has proven to me in his limited minutes last year that he can handle playing in the big apple. What more is there to say?
I've been screaming about this for weeks now...Qyntel Woods is our best option at the SF position for this team moving forward. Case closed. Compare him to these options at SF and tell me who you'd rather have playing big minutes at the 3 spot: (1) It's obvious that both Jalen Rose and Malik Rose (who's not even a SF) aren't part of the future plans for this club, so why invest any PT in them at all at the expense of others? (2) Q-Rich brings the commitment to defense and rebounding that you want to see but is painfully inconsistent on the offensive end and gets hurt a little too often for anyone in their right mind to consider him dependable (his uninsured back can flare up at anytime). (3) Sorry to disagree with some but David Lee isn't a SF. Maybe sometimes, based on particular matchups once in a while we might be able to get away with it, but he's clearly better suited using his natural quickness as an advantage against other 4s, not against the majority of 3s out there that are quicker than he is (4) Balkman has good defensive/rebounding potential but isn't really an offensive player at all. Plus he's a rookie. He needs to learn how to play the NBA game. It would be extremely unfair to throw him right in the mix with big minutes this early (I've really warmed up to the pick though since draft night and I now think he's a good fit. Zeke will eventually get his money's worth out of this guy). (5) Ime Udoka is a nice little story out of the D-league but when compared to Woods, Q-Rich and Balkman he comes up short, talent-wise and age-wise. There's no need or room for this guy on the roster, sorry to say. I hope he catches on somewhere though. He's worked hard and has earned a shot.
Woods has got tremendous untapped ability, all he needs is the playing time for it to be realized. Outside of his slightly underwhelming defensive ability at this point (again though, just give him some playing time - this kid's got no body of work at all to speak of for anyone to say that he flat out can't do something on the floor...that's crazy), there is nothing he can't do out on the court. He's a good athlete, he appears to finally have his head screwed on straight (he did a lot of work with charity and children in his limited time with us last year which was nice to see), he can drive the ball with authority, shoot it with range and rebound the ball. He's a perfect fit for us - low risk, high reward.
ZEKE, I'M BEGGING YOU, SIGN THIS KID PLEASE!!!!!
