Well the title of this thread states my feelings about the 3 position. While I believe that Q Woods has the potential to be a star if given ample opportunity....for some reason we haven't heard a peep about him. QRich, Jalen leave a lot to be desired from a long term standpoint (although I respect them both).

Well, if QWoods is not going to get a chance then maybe this kid Salmons is an option. In every game this kid played against us last year this kid was basically unstoppable (especially when Iverson was held out at the beginning of the year). He plays adequate defense, he shoots for percentage and with range plus he's got a good size.

We've got a spot open. Why not have him step in? Ideally it would be fantastic if QWoods was kept along with Salmons being brought in.

Of course I can only imagine this rotation at the 3: Salmons, QWoods< Balkman. In fact check out this running 3 guard lineup

PG: QWoods (yes I believe his handle is good enough for the point)
Wing: Salmons
Wing: Balkman (on D he covers the opposing teams SF)
PF: DLee
C: Channing

Big and they shoot the sheet outta it.

Q Woods may have good enough handle to be a PG but he doesn't know how to run an offense. I like Salmons a lot but I thought Toronto had signed him.

Maybe not. He's not listed on To's roster. I could have sworn I heard that Toronto had signed him. Maybe it was just a rumor.

Salmons leaves Raptors hanging
Sixer says Toronto `not the best fit'

Slim pickings left to fill guard spot

SPORTS REPORTER

John Salmons walked away from $23 million because he was concerned how he would fit in with the Raptors.

The free-agent guard's fickleness was the reason a proposed trade between Toronto and the Philadelphia 76ers unexpectedly fell through, sending the Raptors back into the marketplace to find a player.

"Upon reviewing the basketball situation in Toronto, John decided it's not the best fit for him," a statement from Salmons' agent, Joel Bell, said.

"In a very stressful and tough decision, he decided he could not accept the opportunity to play for the Raptors, even though he was excited about the prospect of being in Toronto."

Raptor officials, who thought they had Salmons on a five-year, $23 million (U.S.) deal as part of a sign-and-trade transaction for a 2007 second-round draft pick, were caught unaware when Salmons pulled out.

"I'm sorry it didn't work out, I wish him the best," Toronto president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said last night.

There was no indication of which free agents the Raptors are chasing to replace Salmons, a 6-foot-6 guard who can play both backcourt positions.

The market is rapidly drying up, although Eddie House, a guard the Raptors had their eye on before Salmons, is available.

Colangelo could also be pursuing trade possibilities now that he has more salary cap flexibility to bring back a player making substantially more than anyone he might give up.

As for Salmons, his options are limited. After he turned down an offer from the Suns to supposedly sign with Toronto, a qualifying offer given him by the Sixers — which would have guaranteed him a contract worth about $2 million last season had he returned to Philadelphia — was rescinded Thursday. He now has no guaranteed deal anywhere for next season.

Yeah salmons turned down Toronto. To me that is crazy! Salmons was a nobody before last season. He should have taken that money just to be in the league for a few years guaranteed. Hopefully someone picks him up.

Thanks for the article, Rich. Now I feel like I'm not losing it after all! Salmons vs. Q Woods for the MLE is a tough choice (if they'd even be willing to play for NY).

salmons is too skinny to play the 3 and also he is worst than crawford was when crawford used to be trigger happy
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

I think the reason Salmons backed out is that Philly rescinded their qualifing offer and in doing so, made him an unrestricted free agent. Thus, he can go anywhere he wants. I think it is a bad decision. If you gave your word to Toronto, you should go ahead and fulfill you commitment. I have a feeling this is going to backfire on him.
