Do you know if we don't sign anyone this season there is the possiblity that $55,870,250 falls off the cap this year?

In the form of:
Allan Houston $20,718,750
Jalen Rose $16,901,500
Maurice Taylor $9,750,000
Shandon Anderson $8,500,000

More. JYD - $8 mill or so. I think.

Yup. I think that's why Dolan has tightened the strings - if Isiah screws up this year, we have a payroll around $75 million with some good young talent to build around.

$33 million of that Zeke brought in and it's gone before his 3rd year on the job...interesting...interesting...

I guess you could see why some of us weren't bellyaching about it so much...MRose comes off next year and I've said it time and time again, I'm extremely with our core and would rather develop the roster into a contender as opposed to try to sign and trade our way into the upper echelon.

I'm sure we'd all rather have kept penny and reezy and let penny expire...that would have put us under the cap ($65 mill), but that's water under the bridge.

not really on the penny trade. that was still an awful move. the only way that move is saved is if we get something worthwhile for Francis and I don't see that happening.

I adjusted my post, because $55 million seemed a large leap to make, but we would have been damn close to being under the cap...this year it's $65 million.

So, as mentioned previously, the knicks will be under the cap when marbury's contract expires.

that's probably why dolan is pinning that signing on LB.

I always felt the plan was under the cap in 5 years.

I don't think so, I think we'd be about $5-10 over the cap. Hoopshype doesn't count Eddy's deal yet for some reason and doesn't add Balkman's and Collins' rookie deals in.

At least Jalen expires this year, Francis is the killer though

it's safe to say marbury's deal expiring is the year the knicks are back under the cap...I think franchise is the same year as marbury.

Correct...nor does it count the team options for Frye, Lee and Nate. And for it to really count for anything you need to be at least 7M under.

whoever the GM for the team is at that point - an important phase in the next 5-10 years of this franchise will be locking up those three to REASONABLE deals. we can't overpay, but it would also hurt to lose any of them.

The next two years will determine the direction of the franchise for years to come.

Too bad there is still $10000000000000 left on the cap after all those contracts come off.

this is why its odd that we wouldn't match the spurs offer to Jackie B- at some point in a year or two, we aren't 'that far' over the cap...

The thing is that Butler can be replicated, so why pay so much for a guy like that. There's bound to be some kid coming out next year that can fill a need at 3rd string center.

I like having the roster spot open and then getting someone who can help at a position we really need help at. It also makes it easier to absorb an extra player in a two for one trade scenario.

Are you serious? Butler is getting 2million a year, thats alot of money? The Knicks just lost their backup center, becuase theres no way JJ is gonna roll out there and be a viable backup, he fouls like a maniac, there is no way he can sustain as backup. Are you Isiah Thomas, James Dolan or Steve Mills? I haven't seen you say one thing disparaging EVER about any player move. Hell even RV hated the Mo Taylor acquisition. Maybe your a optimist, I'm just curious.
