Knicks decline to match Spurs' offer to Butler

Express-News

SALT LAKE CITY – The New York Knicks have decided not to match the Spurs’ three-year, $7 million offer to restricted free agent Jackie Butler, a Knicks’ spokesman said Wednesday.

The Spurs have yet to officially hear from the Knicks or the NBA.

The Spurs also have not heard from the Denver Nuggets, who have until Thursday to match an offer for restricted free agent Francisco Elson.

Both Butler and Elson are centers.

lol, no way, I loved butler, just feel like there may be something in place. It's a shame we are losing these kids, but this seemed more a butler move than a knick move IMHO.

Maybe the knicks have a feeling that Jerome James will give them something after all, or maybe there is a free agent on the horizon (jeffries).

But Butler was not a scrub. He was as good as Ariza.

So, the Spurs signed Elson and Butler? Damn, this is why they are always one of the great teams. Now they can save Duncan for the playoffs.

Losing Butler sucks.

[koolaid]That means Butler was a scrub. Ariza sucked too.[/koolaid]

[reality]Yes, I thought Butler was pretty decent, and I also liked Ariza. Certainly, valuewise it would've made sense to keep Butler.[/reality]

Losing Ariza was Larry's fault. Because Larry sucks and thinks he is the only one allowed to be arrogant on the basketball court. I will say that losing Ariza hurt more than losing Jackie.

I don't mind giving up Butler, just thought maybe we should've gotten something for him. S&T for future considerations even. Anything.

Only problem with this is that Jerome James is firmly planted as the backup center. That could be BIG(no pun intended) problem.

I don't think a S&T was an option for butler.

How come, you can't S&T restricted FAs? If thats true and the case, I would have just kept Jackie. I don't want Jerome anywhere near the floor.

JJ is eating 6 happy meals as we speak. "And I'll take a number two, five number sevens, three number fours, a number 11, two number sixes" (anyone remember lines similar to this from GTA San Andreas? )

You have to wait till December 15 (I think), if you match.

Yay. VD joins the light. Stay away from the dark side -- they're evil.

If you knew what was proportionally idiotic, my guess is you wouldn't post half of what you do.
