J.R. Smith On His Way To Denver?
17th July, 2006 - 4:16 am
Rocky Mountain News - A source said Sunday the Denver Nuggets are close to acquiring J.R. Smith, an up-and-coming guard who played last season for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.

In a deal that was announced Friday, Smith was traded with forward P.J. Brown from the Hornets to the Chicago Bulls for forward Tyson Chandler. The trade is expected to become official after Brown and Smith take physicals Wednesday.

The source said the Bulls then plan to trade Smith to the Nuggets for guard Howard Eisley, who has a nonguaranteed contract, and two future second-round picks. The Bulls, who need to clear salary cap room to sign free-agent forward Adrian Griffin, then would waive Eisley.

The 6-foot-6 Smith, 20, averaged 7.7 points last season after averaging 10.3 as a rookie in 2004-05. He entered the NBA directly from St. Benedict's Prep, a high school in Newark, N.J.

Damn this trades gets us 2 bullets in one ass cheek. First Denver gets it's SG and it takes away Smith as a viable option for us.

i dont want smith, the man isnt a good shooter and shoots low percentages, plus his coaches complain thathe's hard to talk with and rarely does wat the coach tells him

we have enough of those kind of players
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

I guess JR Smith isn't the dominant beast SG for the next 10 years for the Bulls as some predicted.

Actually I don't know why the Bulls even acquired him. The are set with Duhon, Gordon, Kirk. Deng can also play some two. I would bet that NO said if you want PJ you gotta take him.

doesn't change the fact that when the Bulls got him, certain parties on the board were crying about the genius of Paxson.

personally, I think giving up Tyson Chandler for Ben Wallace is stupid. We'll see.

I agree. Moving a young talented defender like Tyson Chandler for a 37 yr old PJ Brown makes no sense to me.

As far as JR is concerend, I've been hot for the Knicks to pursuit him since January. I think he could def, fit into the long term plans of this team. He's 20 yrs old could have been a part of the New Knicks (Frye, Curry, Lee, JR, Balkman......) But its all a pipe dream now.

I'll go on record now as saying I do not think the Bulls will be as good as alot of people think. They now have absolutely no post offense and are going to be too dependant on the jumper of their undersized guards. They may do well in the season, but come playoffs I think they are gonna hurt alot. Not to mention the way the Bulls play is not going to be too kind to a 32 yr old Wallace and a 37 yr old Brown.

Totally agree. Bulls main weakness last year wasn't on the defensive end, it was post offense and easy baskets.

yeah, I mean, if you aren't going to keep JR Smith, I don't see the point of giving up Chandler. To me, Chandler is almost as effective a defender as Wallace is at this point and he's much younger.

I think the Bulls will be very good for about two years, but never close to a championship.

Chandler did a pretty good job guarding Shaq one on one. About as good as anyone could expect. Shaq abused Wallace. To the point where late in the series, Wallace had to be taken out of games down the stretch.

JR Smith for two 2nd round picks? & this kid was once a topnotch lottery pick? gotta wonder what's going on there that's driven his value so low.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Bulls dumped Chandler. It ain't about PJ, it was about getting Ben. Basically they traded Tyson for ben and PJ.

JR for eisley? ouch!
