Franko KASTROPIL 7-1 C 1984 Croatia

Kastorpil might be the player with the least amount of upside from this group. He's big, athletic and unlike most European big men, is very strong and already has an NBA body. Because of his physical abilities, he's a good rebounder and a very solid defender. His offensive game is rather limited, and most of his points come from offensive rebounds.

Also, he might be one of worst FT shooters on the planet. Kastropil needs to develop a better back-to-the-basket game in order to make the jump to the NBA. He's a 2nd rounder for now and has potential to become a solid backup center in the NBA.

Paul MILLER 6-foot-10 250 C Wichita State

SCOUTING REPORT: It is easy to say that Miller had a wildly successful senior season. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference player of the year and an honorable mention All-American after leading the Shockers to the conference title and to the Sweet 16 of the 2006 NCAA tournament. During the tournament run, Miller averaged 13.7 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Miller scored a team-high 19 points in his first game at the pre-draft Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, but faded into the background during the other two games. For the tournament, he averaged 9.3 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Defensively, he did not play well mainly because he lacks lateral quickness, and he seemed slow to the ball for rebounds. As a senior, Miller averaged 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and shot 51 percent from the floor.

Although he has a little offensive versatility with a mid-range jumper and the ability to finish in transition, there are major defensive and rebounding questions about Miller. He only had six double-doubles in college and does not seem athletic enough to be a good defender at the NBA level.

From The UNH Scouting Report

Senior forward Kenny Adeleke has been the consistant leader for the Hawks throughout the season, averaging double-doubles all season long. Adeleke leads America East in scoring and rebounding with an average of 20.5 points and 13.1 boards per game

Almost Live From Orlando

Kenny Adeleke

Adeleke has been the best player in this tournament by far. For the second consecutive day, Adeleke attacked the competition with a good-spirited intensity that got results. Adeleke is extremely vocal with his teammates on defense and plans out his attack strategy early in the possession.

On one play Adeleke was defending against the much larger Frans Styn. Knowing that he couldn’t challenge Styn’s release if he let him get on the block, Adeleke stepped away and waited for Steyn to turn into his drop step which he then attacked and forced Styn to travel by denying the dribble.

Offensively, Adeleke showed tremendous hustle and skill. His footwork is quick and decisive and he executes secondary moves so well off his pivot the refs assumed on 2 occasions that he must have traveled-not the case. Adeleke shot two beautiful left handed hooks after banging bodies with Eric Hicks, showing soft touch after impact.

On another occasion, Adeleke scooped up a low bullet pass right off his shoe tops and finished in one fluid motion. His double jump and aggressive fight for every rebound was impressive.

Adeleke’s best rebound came on a possession where the perimeter inlet man faked the pass and shot the ball, which put Adeleke behind his man and the basket. Adeleke was able to twist around his man and tip the ball to himself before going up for another easy bucket. This was the best individual performance to date.

I have a feeling Woods is gone too. We worked nicely on them last season, and it seems to have gone down the toilet.

Sup Hartford?

djsu - Adekele at center?

I think not. Then again, I've never seen him play either. But at 6'9.5 I'd rather play David Lee at Cameo Center and see if 6'10 Paul Miller has an angry gene that hasn't been discovered.

Adekele gets Mo Taylor's (and some of Malik Rose') minutes.

Jackie Butler stays. (fingers crossed)

Knicks should lock up Jackie B to a 5 yr 15mm$ deal. Contract starts in low 2s and has no long term effect on cap+its very movable.

as of right now, mo taylor is our most established big man. frye will be better but our only vet that can actually stay on the court and knows how to play is mo.

Paul Miller has some decent offensive talent. He can shoot the midrange J and knows what to do with his back to the basket. I've only ever seen him in the NCAA tourney, but he gave a lot of problems to Seton Hall, was not very good against Tennessee in an upset win, and was very good against George Mason in a loss. Not much a defender though. Kind of a small school version of MSU's Paul Davis.

Unfortunately he didn't do to well when he went up against fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Patrick O'Bryant of Bradley.

Mo Taylor had his mo-ments last season but I wish he saw the floor better and passed the basketball. Once he catches the ball down low you KNOW he going for his shot. So does the other team.

If Adeleke can play rugged NBA forward, Malik Rose can serve as an honorary "Avery Johnson assistant coach-in-waiting".

I hope Quentin Richardson has a new girlfriend and is working on his jumper.

VDesai - great observations from watching Paul Miller instead of mere specualtion. Thank you for the informed analysis. Could Miller add depth at center?

Can he supplant Jerome James in an uptempo game?

Or is Big 'Rome working on his handle (the dribble move was sweet) as we speak?

Inquiring minds want to know

He does the pick and pop pretty nicely. Remember how good Doleac was with Marbury on that play? We already have Channing for that role though. Miller is not exactly fleet of foot. Not sure he's the best guy to get up and down the court in the running game. Then again we've seen a guy in the NBA like Brad Miller who got himself into tip top shape, worked really hard on his strengths (passing and shooting) and developed into a borderline NBA star after a few years on the fringe. I think this Miller would need to undergo a similar transformation to make an NBA roster. It's certainly possible if he works hard enough though...he has enough base skill.

VDesai - amazing. I also thought about the subtle Brad Miller comparison.

Not that OUR Miller is anywhere close, but if the raw material is there - the question is how hard is he willing to work on his defensive game. From the reports I skimmed throught, it seems the major knock is his passive nature - or the refusal to mix it up inside and aggressively go after the basketball.

His offense seems decent enough by the descriptions.

Can FIRE and DESIRE be taught and instilled in this young man?

Maybe he and Balkman could room together in Vegas.

Not certified but... what's wrong with a positive rumor?

From PGG344 on Real GM

>> Marbury and Crawford were in vegas practicing with the team for the last 2 days. My friend who was on the team told me this, unfortunately, he is headed home today because he tore ligaments in his hand.

(hopefully, it was the friend with the torn ligaments)
