" Layden decided against using his injury exception to claim 6-9 SF Lee Nailon off waivers. The GM probably feels he can do better trading the exception to a team looking to dump a frontcourt player"

It's in this article: http://nypost.com/sports/knicks/24188.htm. Bah :(

Good. We have too many SF's and swing players already. Unless we're unloading Anderson or Spree, Nailon is just unwanted baggage.

Layden should be patient, look for a good rebounder, shot blocker, or in the paint threat. Doesn't have to be a superstar, but a solid presence down low, a decent center. Move KT to the 4. Don't take anyone under 6-11, but don't take a stick pin or a fat slob. Seriously. If he can't get a center, get a big PF who likes to push people around. Our glaring weakness is our paint defense. Once that ball gets close to the basket, we're helpless.

In short: no muscle, no deal.

Watching Dallas and Orlando play last night, I got a little depressed. Dallas has so many quality players that are tall and fast. Orlando got this guy, Burke, from Europe, and he looked pretty solid. Both teams moved the ball around much better than the Knicks. And neither team spends a as much on payroll as the Knicks.

We had that guy Burke a few years ago in camp I remeber, plus Van Gundy mentioned it last night. He did pretty good. I was a little disapointed in Kemps playing shape. he said he was gonna work out with a vengence and he came in like a slob.

"Natural" small forwards doesn't count. It's who is on the roster already. You can add Nailon, bench material, but you'll still have:

- Spree
- Spoon
- Shanderson

That's 3. And Nailon would rarely play, unless one of the others got injured. The way you play guys is not "play the best natural at each position" it's "put the best 5 on the floor". So, instead of paying a guy you don't use and don't need, get a guy to defend, rebound, block shots. Who's the best rebounder on the team right now? It's Spoon. We need better.

I think it was a good move not picking up Nailon with the injury exception. Dave D's article states it prety clearly. The Knicks would have lost the injury exception, and not have been able to use it in a trade. They can still pick him up using part of the 4.5M exception, or opt for a similar player in Ty Nesby. Also Nailon has baggage, and was not a coaches player in Charlotte.
