It's much more entertaining to the media to cast repeated images of the resless Knicks fans.

If New Yorkers are supposedly among the most saavy basketball fans -

Can someone remind me what the problem is with a versatile, intelligent, 6'6 (yes, six foot six) guard from a solid winning program - who can bring the ball up, hit the open man and defend is again?

Actually, misterearl, now that a few days have let the dust settle (and getting over not getting Marcus Williams), I'm starting to warm up to that pick a little bit. If he truly is a defender and plays team ball, he could be good for the Knicks.

My only question is... does he get any playing time this year?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Solace - it ain't that deep. if Collins can play, he will get minutes

My sense is Isiah needed the 6'6 backcourt height, especially on DEFENSE, to compensate for Marbury at 6' and Nate at 5'8

We have a SOLID player in Collins

It depends. If Francis is here, is Francis playing the 1 or the 2? Marbury and Francis are obviously going to have to get some court time together. So, when Marbury is sitting, is Collins in, or is Francis playing the 1? I think it will become an issue because between SF, SG and PG we have a bunch of guys who command a lot of minutes -- QRich, Crawford, Nate, Marbury, Francis, Rose... do guys like Balkman and Collins get minutes? If they do, how many minutes per game? 5? 10?

I think the minutes are a fair question. Now, if Francis gets traded before the season starts, obviously that changes the dynamic significantly.

Not so fast. I don't think Isiah will play two shrimps together in the backcourt any more than he HAS to.

Marbury - Crawford

Marbury - Collins

Nate - Collins

Francis - Collins

Francis - Jalen Rose

I honestly don't believe you can play either Francis or Marbury less than 35 mpg each and have them not bitching and ruining team chemistry. Isiah loves Marbury, so he's not going to get his minutes cut into too much. If it is Francis, then we're going to have to trade him, because Francis getting small minutes is going to cause problems.

I agree with Solace. That's why having tons of talent doesn't mean winning basketball games. Francis and Marbury are not going to accept coming off the bench or having limited minutes or not having the ball in their hands every trip. At some point one will complain about their roles. That's why all good teams have role players.
I just hope that people will like me

But why is there absollutely NO talk of the skill-set that Collins brings to the Knicks table and where he fits in the equation?

A. People would rather kvetch over the future as all is gloom and doom

It's just being realistic. There's a roadblock ahead of him for getting minutes... and him getting minutes won't be based on talent. It'll be based on veterans ahead of him. If Francis isn't getting his minutes, the team will suffer. Three years down the line, Collins may be very helpful. I just don't see him getting meaningful minutes while we have both Francis and Marbury.

I made a whole thread of Mardy Collins articles that no one responded too.

I think he can develop into a very useful NBA player. He's smart, doesn't make mistakes and plays D...if only we had a certain coach that value those traits (j/k!).

That's exactly what Collins looks like - a solid role player on a good team. He'll find minutes. I don't think Francis will be here. I would be extremely surprised if Jalen Rose was on anything but the IR.

I think we'll see a backcourt rotation of Marbury/Craw and Nate/Collins.

Collins fills two very important needs on this club: a point guard more interested in setting up others first and a defensive stopper. I was thinking Collins wouldn't be available to the Knicks at 20, so getting him at 29 was nice.
