What is Wrong with Steve Francis?

The general consensus on this board appears to be that Francis is an unwanted, horrible player that should be removed from the NY roster. I am not fully decided on him. Is it because he is the same person as Marbury? I actually thought he was better than Marbury; especially when he was with Houston. Is it a bad attitude? Is his game that terrible? I'd like to give him an opportunity to run with Marbury... see what he can do. Can somebody explain (or multiple people) why Steve Francis is so abominable to this board?

Because Vince Carter tanked with the Raps, went to the Nets and became Vinsanity again. Francis tanked with the Magic, came here and didn't care enough to show us how good he could be.

A guy like that, he got a second chance. He should have played with that Vince chip on his shoulder. Shouldve said 'you gonna trade me for broken-down Penny, I'll show you what I can do'. Instead, he didn't care enough to try. He has the talent to score 35-45 points on anyone, but he didn't want us. So we don't want him.

Still might be time for that to change though.

Fair enough. I am in the "blame Larry" school of Knicks 05-06 problems. I'd like to see what Zeke does with Stevie...I think he is really talented...

You might be right. Maybe his problem was Larry screwing the rotation. If Francis really REALLY shows up next year, he could be worth 4-5 win by himself. I'm talking 25-6-6.

But is it worth the gamble? I guess it boils down to what are our alternatives. Who can we get for him, that would be better then the real Steve Francis. And can we really trust him to turn up, if we do keep him?

Well, considering all we gave up was Penny and Ariza, I wouldn't expect to get much. But salary isn't my problem. Team chemistry is more important to me. If he can perform without being a cancer, all costs aside, I would keep him. If it is clear he intends to be a punk, I would kick to the curb...again I am in favor of seeing him and Marbury doing some serious running.

He will only be happy if he is going to start (he pretty much said it during last season). If he isn't going start, he has to be traded or waived.

I would want to see some serious commitment from Stevie. He has to go out there dishin' and drivin'. Jammin' and slammin'. There was zero energy last year. If he wants to be a Knick, then trust me, Knick fans will come round to him. But his history isn't the most positive in that regard.

It would certainly be better for us if he played as well as he can. The question is if he wants to? He didn't last year.

Yeah man, Francis is helluva player when he wants to be. I know it's a stretch to hope that he and Marbury can co-exsist, but the talent between them is undeniable. If one of our rookies prove to be solid defensively on opposing wing players, it could be fun to watch.

Or... A rather likely scenerio

Our backcourt dominates the ball and leaves our bigs disinterested. This leads to gaping holes in our defense and foul flagued games. Q1 loses even more confidence in his shot & Crawford regresses because selfish play is contagious.



Considering the fact that Isiah claimed to have had the oppurtunity to move up in this draft and didn't, really makes me wonder what's going on. Man I have my fingers crossed

Alright, Gr33d, that actually is a very likely, but unfortunate, scenario. Or, with a high paced offense, there is enough shots to go around (like in Pheonix.

So, assuming we keep Francis and Marbs together, what is the best completion to the lineup:

I think it is QWoods, DLee, and Frye. If Woods is gone, maybe Qrich cacan play the 3.

Nothing is wrong with Steve Francis. I am expecting big production from hi if he does not get traded, and I don't think he will be traded before he is showcased.

I just hope he doesn't hog the ball. Maybe Isiah can get through to him since he was most of these guys' idol.

Steve is a me first player. Its all about him, and nobody else. Everything is an excuse with him. He was here 10 minutes and he was making excuses.

His teammates did not like him in Hou where all he did was goof off with Cutino. God, I could go for 2 pages on how he's quit on coaches, has been selfish to the point where it hurt his team and what a general me first jerk he is. Not anyone I want around a young team which is what we have.

For all the knocks on Marbury he's not half the ass Francis is. I think Marbury will be OK.

I actually like Francis better than Blubbury because of his ability to rebound. He is here for a half of a season. I think I need to give him more time before I declare him useless. I do think he will be traded though.

I think Jamal can come off the bench.

With Qrich, is our 4 guards payroll more than some teams? That backcourts gotta be over 40 million a year!

With Franbury, is our front court ever gonna see the ball?

Actually, Nalod it's closer to $47 mil....

Steph----$18 mil
Francis--$15 mil
QRich-----$7 mil
Craw------$7 mil
=$47 mil.

Keep in mind I rounded dontracts down so this is give or take a million dollars.

And at that proce it would put us in 20th place of payroll in front of, Seattle, Denver, Utah, the Clips, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, New Orleans, Charlotte, Chicago, and Atlanta.

I think that this is the backcourt that you will see in the beginning of the season. Popcorn man would have cover this duo with a very good defensive front, hence the Balkman selection. I see a starting lineup of..

C-Frye
PF-Lee
SF-Balkman
SG-Francis
PG-Boobury

With Curry, Nate, Crawford, Butler and Mardy making up the 10 man rotation.

I think Q1 and Q2 will be benched or not signed due to the LB connection.

I think the problem with the entire team was LB.

Sure a lot of them showed no heart, but he didnt exactly help the situation.

Steve was brought in to a lockeroom that was already poisoned throughout the season so it is not 100% his fault for the way things went. He was not put in a position to succeed, and after houston and orlando i am sure it hurt to be put into the fire once again.

Isiah is right, he needs to build this teams psyche back up because LB gutted them. I wouldnt be so down on Steve just yet, sure we have all seen his worst side as well as the rest of the team, so lets see what they can do when they actually have some support on the sidelines.

Until proven otherwise, both Marbury and Francis need the ball in their hands to be effective.
