As the only man with the power to decide the fat of the $40 million dollars that hangs in the balance, what do you think he will do? Whose side will he rule on behalf of? And why? Which of the 3 choices?
Grants LB $40 million.
Grants LB some but not all of the money
Grants LB nothing.

Stern will give Larry Brown nothing, because Larry Brown is the Devil's Spawn, and Stern can't tolerate Satan in today's NBA.

I think he grants LB nothing. He doesn't like LB, probably believes he acted in bad faith, and nows that this kind of behavior by a coach has huge repurcussions for the rest of the league, coaches and players alike. Stern is a facist, he always sides with the owners/management over employess; except for Mark Cuban of course.

If he lets Brown do this, what stops another coach or player from doing something like this? He hates the players union for the way players are allowed to mail it in, and there is no recourse. What Brown did is bad for his profession and bad for the league and Stern knows this and may even be taking it personally; Stern is a Knick fan.

Brown will not get more than 10 Million if anything, but I think and hope he gets nothing. Stern can be very heavy handed, and I expect that in this case.

Part of the reason I think LB will get $40M or the present day value in a lump sum is that David doesn't want to set a precedent for EVERY coach or player to have that included by owners and have each and every one arbitrated. Would owners be taking notes on every converstation and be able to nullify contracts? JJ would certainly be gone, an organization could say that Marb didn't give effort against Orlando, Francis missed a bunch of flights... it goes on. Don't want those kinds of arbitrations to distract from the NBA product.

if the Knicks thought LB was out of his bounds during the season, why didn't they fine him?

I disagree here, because the players have a union, and coaches do not (that I know of). Players have a way of addressing grievances, coaches are management staff and do not, so your concerns here aren't valid imo.

coaches get fined, repremanded. Dolan will have to pay a significant portion as he did not act in good faith or deal with issues as they became a problem. Only when he decided to fire larry did he decide to document any "discretions".

Stern has a conflict as he works for the owners. As bad as larry has been, dolan looks like a complete ass despite his spin control.

LB gets his 40 mill. DOlan is hated and spit upon by the whole of the NBA. It will ruffle alot less feathers giving LB what he wants than giving Dolan what he wants.
