what do you expect Dolan to say at this point though? everyone knows Isiah's ass is on the line regardless... are you guys seriously willing to wait another 3 or 4 years to give Isiah more time to make moves to build this team after the past several years he's been making moves w/no positive results? for Dolan, he had to either make this ultimatum or just fire Isiah & go in another direction... of course, i would have preferred he fired Isiah & hired a guy like Jerry Colangelo to run the ship, but Dolan's got a huge amount of dollars invested into this team now & for an owner, i think this was the only realistic decision to be made.

I'm not surprised about what Dolan said, however, I do think it would be better if he just kept that to himself and if Isiah doesn't get the job done (team doesn't show progress) you fire him next season.

Everyone knows Dolan is an idiot, nothing he says at this point convinces people otherwise. He should have just kept this decision to himself. If Isiah does a good coaching job and the team shows a lot of improvement, ok, then keep him. But if this team doesn't win 30 games next season, you can him. Why let him know he only has one year? That basically forces him to put a team together that wins now (which we just aren't in a position to do right now).

It forces Isiah to avoid doing what is best for the franchise. If I was Dolan, I would basically give Isiah support privately and tell him he will be ok. But I would know to myself that if the team showed no improvement whatsoever and there is no visible plan (by all-star break or even before), then he would be gone. At least Isiah wouldn't be forced to make win-now trades which he is horrible at.

I don't care about Dolan spending his money but when it kills us in the long-term, I start caring :)

Definitely, the goal has been to win here. At the same time though, I think Isiah planned on developing our young guys. My fear is that he will trade them to win now if the opportunity comes up.

Anyone who wants him to fail given that the Bulls can have the Knicks' 1st round pick, isn't a fan.

The only logical thing to do would be to put Isiah as coach and
hire somebody else as GM.
That way Isiah doesn't have free reign to do whatever he wants,
but is still forced to put up or shut up. He doesn't deserve to
have the power to bail himself out at the expense of the team.
Pat Riley is in a totally different situation. He was already
in an obvious "win now" position there. Having Isiah as both
coach and GM of a rebuilding and losing team with the pressure for
win now results is contradictory and just stupid.

I hope that Isiah can turn this thing around.

I'm a fan, of course I hope they succeed!

As do I, but he's not about to do that after all the money he's spent after having bought into Isiah's longterm "plan" to bring a championship to NY... my preference would be for Dolan to hire Colangelo to serve as team Pres. & GM, & have Isiah coach this team... then if Isiah's players are still underachieving, he can get rid of the whole lot & rebuild this thing the way it should have been from the very beginning.
