Thought I had read somewhere (maybe on Draftexpress) a couple of weeks ago that he failed to bench 185 even once during the pre-draft strength portion of the combined athletic test. I thought I remember seeing a big fat ZERO in the strength column next to his name when they first came out with the results and I was like what the @#$%. Definitely alarming. Is that right? Can't be right... Curiously, now it says N/A. Anyone know?
Anyway, I'm not sold on him. He looks like he can shoot it a little bit from medium range, but what about the other parts of his game? NBA 3-point range? Defense? Going to the basket? At 6-9, does he have a post game? I know a lot has been said about his rebounding ability and his ability to block a shot or two but people might be overrating him a little bit when it comes to his alleged strengths. But to be fair I do like his youth (he's 2-4 years younger then most of the guys in this draft) and God knows we're not winning anything big soon so he's got room to develop here. I like the fact that Zeke seems to be leaning toward taking a SF and he might be the best one available at 20. Where do you guys rank Williams against some of the other SFs that might be around at 20 - Thabo Sefolosha, Marcus Vinicius, James White, PJ Tucker?? More importantly how do you guys think Qyntel Woods stacks up against any of these guys? Are anyone of these guys that much better than Q Woods, talent-wise? I'm not sure. He's still young, athletic, can shoot, put it on the floor and can go to the glass and contribute, that much is sure - we all saw it last year in spirts. Anyone think he could be the answer at SF? I think he could be.
For me, I would love to land Maurice Ager at 20 and then figure out a way to get Hilton Armstrong here. I know, I know ---- we already have Crawford and Richardson at the 2 but I think Ager will eventually be better then those guys. He can flat out score the ball. I don't think Armstrong will be there at 29 so maybe I consider the rumored trade with the Grizzlies of Francis and #29 to Memphis for Eddie Jones and #24. Maybe I do the trade and take Armstrong at 20 and hope Ager is there at 24. Or maybe I trade down with the 29th pick and whatever else to the second round where I take a guy like Justin Williams from Wyoming. One of the top shotblockers in the nation and might wind up being a better shotblocker than Armstrong when it's all said and done. I know U-Conn played better competition night in and night out than Wyoming but the guy did average 11 & 11 with over 5 blocks a game. Hard numbers to overlook. I also read that he was awesome in Orlando during the pre-draft workouts. He alone might even be worth the 29 pick (I like him better then Boone there - Is Boone that much better than Jackie Butler?). Let me get your input on some of this stuff fellas. Man I can't wait for Weds night - one of the best nights of the year, I tell ya!!
