Ok, so the draft is still a few days away and we are all caught up in the coaching drama. I see a lot of arguing over whether we are going to be mediocre or miserable next year. But how would you define success?

I'll say 46+ wins, second round in playoffs, a good draft, and youth playing well. If we can get that without taking on any extra baggage through bad trades I'll be happy enough.

if isiah thomas doesn't get this team in the playoffs he should be court marshalled out of the arena like chaney.

Success to me is getting these known malcontents to play teamball and play defense and not just for short periods but for for full games. If Isiah can do this, I'll deem the season as a huge success, because if the team does this, they will win.

Yes, so missing the playoffs is failure. Agreed. What's success?

Having at least a .500 record and making the playoffs the first year. Where we should have been this year. LB set us back a year.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

How is having a 500 record a success? This team has a 125 million dollar payrole.

success at this point = hope

success at this point = not being the most embarrassing team in sports

success at this point needs to = .500

Baby steps.. .500 ball is a start

If he manages to do this an NOT add significant money to the cap, he might be on to something.

great point. Like I've said before we will barely make the playoffs and get swept in 4 and all you'll hear is how we're improving and getting younger and more athletic. Eventhough Isiah is entering year #4 after 4yrs of that Layden debacle.

Success would be not trading away lottery picks & not going after players like Francis, James, Mo Taylor. Ultimately success would be getting a guy in hear who knows how to build a winning team with high draft picks and key signings...somebody like Jerry Colangelo

I'll divert to what I said earlier in this thread.

If Isiah gets guys like Marbury, Francis, Curry to play hard team-basketball AND defense then I will deem it a success. If these guys do what I'm saying then all this other stuff about wins and all that will take care of itself.

But Brown should be praised after losing because of his track record?

Hi Guys,

The amount of improvement that would have made you happy if LB stayed on next season should make you happy under Isiah next season.

For me that is contending for a playoff spot or about .500 ball. That would be a dramatic improvement.

If the Knicks get beat in first round I'll be ecstatic.

If they make it past the first round I'll sh!t myself!

If they make the conference finals I don't know what I'll do.

Etc.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

brown is not being praised. nobody is praising him. some people want to retain him but if you haven't noticed, he himself said he did a "terrible job" and everybody and their mother is saying it too. all i'm saying is that there were mitigating circumstances.

3 years under isiah, over $300 mil spent and .500 is acceptable?

Why not? .300 would have been acceptable with Brown!

How is having a .500 record a success? Wasn't that the expectation of LB in his first year? Oh, I know, these youngsters have a year under their belt now... they won 23 games, count them. Keep the standards the same for Isiah as they were for LB. No more or less. If LB won 41 his first year then yes, that team should win 50 the next year. So Isiah should win 50 his second year. Be fair. LB set the timetable back.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

DJ, what were the mitigating circumstances? LB's ego getting in the way of him doing his job? Come on, granted Marbury was hurt a lot, but they weren't winning when he played. LB created a mess and it went down hill from there.

41 wins or the playoffs, and seeing the young players, especially Curry and Frye, get better.
