As I understand it, they only get the injury exception if they can guarantee McDyess will be out for the entire season. When Jayson Williams for the Nets broke his leg as bad as he did, NJ could not get the injury exception for the next season, and that was after he had to retire. I don't understand the logic, but it's more likely than not the Knicks will NOT get the injury exception. They still have the mid-level exception, though.

I think that this would definitely be a good move.
The Knicks need another scorer to get Houston and Spree more open shots.
If McDyess is out for the year, the Knicks get an injury exception thats around 108% of the leagues avg salary. I think that that comes
out to 4.8mil.
